From central OP to Waterfall Glen via Plainfield and back to OP the distance is about 36 miles.
Last weekend we did the additional miles associated with Bluff Road and we came back with about 42 miles.
The hills in the Bluff Road area are negotiable. They kicked my as last weekend!
I’d like to do a fast ride (16-18 average) with speeds in the lower 20’s from Fox Park to Waterfall Glen via Plainfield Road. Break at Waterfall Glen and then do Bluff Road (quite hilly) and then back to OP via Plainfield. Start time 7 AM.

The ride would be about 55 miles. My old lady has yoga. Anyway I doubt my fitness would allow me to complete this ride.

I’ll get some details and forward
them to you. I’m attracted to this race as it runs through the town that
I grew up in and it passes near my younger brother’s house on the
northern tip of the lake. More than that, I need a goal to strive for in 2010
and this sounds like quite the challenge and something to work for. The
terrain is not like Southern Wisconsin. It
should be more flat, however, this is a very significant hill at the ½ way
point. They give points and or $$ for the first to get up this “hill”.
This ½ way point is at HighCliffState
Park.
I’ll get more information and
forward it.

Even if this ride comes off, I can't believe it will be as arduous as
last year's.Â
Guillermo, Paul F., Bill and I went to Clarendon Hills and the best we
could manage was a tepid 15.1 average. We wouldn't have gotten up that
high if Guillermo hadn't put the hammer down -- in a relative way of
speaking -- on the way home, fearful that we'd get back with a 14 MPH
average. It was a beautiful day for a ride, despite the headwind, but
a pitiful performance. Seems like we're all winding down for the
winter.Â
Here's hoping we get the chance to redeem ourselves the day after
Thanksgiving.
We ride as long as there's no ice on the roads....it' s all about the
layers and wool socks...a shot of espresso before you walk out the door
and hot ginger tea on board helps too.

Hey Paul, God and I talked it over decided the greater charity is not to stop suddenly in the midst of a peloton for road change. Got the dime at Fox Park while we were waiting, and a penny in the Western Springs Starbucks. And, of course, you saw me pick up the quarter at Blockbuster.
Notwithstanding, don't let this dissuade you from chipping in a dollar for the Heiffer Fund....
I'm not enthusiastic about a 90 mile road race, but am willing to join you for some hard training.

Steve:
I sure hope that you didn’t stop suddenly in front of the group to pick
up that 11 cents only to have someone behind you slam into you. In fact
for 2010, I’m considering taking up a collection for your fund and for
our mutual safety. I figure if we all give you $1, that will prevent you
from stopping in mid-pedal stroke to pick up a nickel on the street which will
allow those behind you to avoid swerving and/or hitting you or the guy next to
us. I’m sure as a group we can make that happen for our
safety on the road.
I will be in Wisconsin the day after Thanksgiving again
this year. I regret not being able to make the ride.
Speaking of Wisconsin ,
I’m planning on doing a 90 mile race in Wisconsin in mid- August. It’s a
race around Lake Winnebago . I’m
looking for some people who want to train hard in preparation for the race and
then go up and ride pace-line together. This is my big goal for
2010. I’ll give you more information if you’re interested.
