Malewa Camping Weekend, 20th/21st August

Hats off to ???????? for organising a great weekend in Malewa. We may have been a bit shy of numbers but we made up for it up in spirit.

Directions for those whom had not been there before were easy to follow and only a few hashers overshot the underpass. With only a short track to follow we were soon into the park and at the camp site. The site is set adjacent to the river with a good selection of trees for shade, but the nice surprise was that the organisers and owners had the entire site set up prior to us all arriving and for most hashers, the tents had also been pre-erected. Even the camp fire area was arranged with chairs and an ample supply of firewood. All that was left for us to do was unroll our sleeping bags and crack a cold one.

At 4 pm, the circle was called together and the hares gave their usual long short details of the trail. Although the sky had been threatening we couldn't believe that the rain would bucket down and that the temperature would drop by 5 degrees as we were about to start.  But it did.  Intrepid hashers that we are, we braved the cold wind and rain and set out on the trail. Soon we were to be greeted by Ollie the ostrich on the trail, but he did the right thing and moved over to allowed the FRB's to pass.

Although a bit slushy and slippery the run was enjoyed by all and to arrive back with a big fire going was even better. As Murphy's law would have it the rain stopped soon after and the gallons of water that had collected in the dining shelter tarp emptied. Then cam the down downs and the Hash songs lead by Glug Glug. The evening meal was a credit to the camp chef and enjoyed by all. There was only one thing left to do and that was to wash it all down with some good wines and a few drops of scotch.

Although a bit chilly most slept well (possibly because of the wee drams and the tipples). Despite a strong rallying cry the next morning only a few braved the 'hair of the dog' run. A full breakfast was served with several versions of coffee brewed by different hashers before people started to break camp and head back home.

Great weekend and look forward to the next trip.

Dogturd
