                          ONH3 Run 365

                     "Hair of the Dog" Run

                          January 2, 2007

Yesterday evening's run set by our GM Nuisance was fortunate for the steadfast few who dared exercise after their holiday excesses.   Fortunate in that Nuisance at the very last minute pulled a "Hair of the Dog" run together (good for you Nuisance!); that we had no rain for once in weeks; and also that there was so much beer available to settle everyone's delirium tremors down a bit.   The very small, exceedingly faithful group of ONH3ers left the Vet L abs Sports Club premises at a very modest pace – with the exception of Nordic wonderboy, Hagar, who bounded ahead of everyone else.  Dog was reminded early-on to keep his balance this run given the unfortunate 'accident' he had on Dominatrix's run that left his forearm and elbow in shreds.   "Was he or wasn't he pushed?" – that's the question.  Joining the veteran runners was a Virgin by the name of Vivien Castro who ran well but committed a sin by leaving before the circle.   Well, shortly into the run, the trail moved us to a field worthy of a Van Gogh painting.  Outrigger led the way, pushing through thigh-length weed but was eventually stymied by 10 foot saber grass and no trail.   Spare Ribs (Bill Drake), who graced the Nairobi Hash years ago and with an appearance at a Hang Loose run last year, immediately dived into the nearly impenetrable wall with his son-in-law James from Aberdeen.  With the trail discovered we soon found ourselves on the main road heading past various Vet Labs experimental testing facilities and avoiding the animal rights activists, past the golf club entrance, the football field…….and on until we came to a dry hold signifying a short and a long route.   Looking down at our legs, most of us had sustained cuts and scratches from the Impressionist portion of the run earlier on. We were a bloody mess.  Unsympathetic, Nuisance quickly informed us that the long route was not marked which allowed a few of the runners to improvise. Hagar did so and was followed by several other SCBs.   Fuck Off with Vivien on his heels took the correct route pushing into the coffee at a tremendous clip.  Outrigger did his best to keep up with them. Spare Ribs and Nuisance swept.   That "tremendous clip" somehow led F-Off to a dead-end road facing the Sakari Plaza which meant a cut-back through the Vet Lab farms.  All in good time though as the longer days allowed enough light to finish.  The other short-cutters and short-routers were already in.  RA Dog circled-us up for the On On afterwards where, because we were such a small contingent (10 or so), everyone was recognized for something or other.   For instance, Empties earned a free beer for his unsolicited soliloquies during the run.  Bumfluff received his because the Virgin had fled too soon.   And, Nuisance drank for setting a trail that inflicted injuries on us all.  Dinner was excellent with Waxed Pussy making a late sartorial appearance after having waited for Dog in his sauna.   This time though she didn't get scorched by touching his red hot pipe.  We all agreed that was good.  On On.
