Although announced in the circle for the past two or three Hash runs, this is our first formal call for particpation in the annual Naivasha Relay. We'd like to put two teams of nine together with, we hope, a few subs.
Everyone meets around 6 a.m. or so Saturday, October 7 not far from the Karen roundabout, arrange seating in vehicles accompanying the teams overland and meet the other Hash House Harrier groups at the Dagoretti Railway Bridge where the first leg of the relay begins. In the past we've had HHH teams from Uganda, Tanzania, Mombasa, etc. The large Nairobi HHH group fields several teams. We're looking at a run that will take us about 80 km. up and down into the Rift Valley through Masailand finally ending-up at the Narasha Gate of Hell's Gate National Park. Participants are "seeded" - it's NOT a race, by the way - with some Hashers running once, others running twice ot three times. It's a great time, the scenery is spectacular, you get a little bit of exercise, a lot of dust and sun and a roaring good time at the end of the trail. Afterwards, we drive out of the park to Burches Camp on Lake Naivasha before dark where we will have accomodations at all levels ready for you along with dinner, campfire, song, nonsense and breakfast the next morning, Sunday.
We're still contacting Burches so we'll be back to you with choices for accommodations and costs. There is tent camping, rondavels, cottages and luxury cottages - hot water showers, toilets, etc. Depending on what you want, you'll be responsible for these costs and bringing your own gear. There will also be an entry fee which will cover Hells' Gate Park fees, dinner and breakfast, and a few admin. costs. Drinks - beer, pop and water - will be provided gratis by ONH3's Mismanagement Comm. We'll get the costs to you soon!
In the meantime, please let Outrigger (tray@...), Dog (psavos@...) and/or the Honorable GM, Nuisance (
j.naessens@...), know of your interest in participating AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
If you are willing to drive the route - it's possible to drive and run, by the way - please let us know. You MUST have a 4WD vehicle with a good spare tire and a full tank of fuel. This is a rough & tough route in some places. You also must be willing to take several runners with you. Each runner passenger should be prepared to provide 500/ to the driver/owner to defray fuel costs. For those not driving and who wish to drop their car off in Karen early Saturday morning, we're figuring out a place to do that.
So, we know we still owe you further details but if you want to particpate in one of ONH3's best yearly events, please get in touch!
On On!
