re the interesting 1949 bike posted by benny, the long piece attached to the
footrest is noticable. Any idea on what it's for? Also, the on the rear guard it
says "Jack Young Edinburgh". I didn't know Jack rode for the Monachs as early as
that.

I am fairly certain that both Jack Young and his brother Frank rode for Edinburgh in 1949....

Frank Young was not in the UK in 1949. He went to the UK in 1950 and rode for Cradley Heath....
