Lake O to Lake H connecting bike path?   Message List

RE: [ok-bike-society] Lake O to Lake H connecting bike path?

Yes, Joe is right. It's Britton Rd, NOT Hefner Rd. Sorry about that. Hope I
didn't confuse anyone too much.

And, yes, Wilshire is rough, but not any rougher than 90% of the county
roads in Oklahoma. I've been told that the city "has plans" to resurface and
widen this stretch, but I'm not holding my breath.

I don't recommend crossing MacArthur where Joe describes it. Too dangerous.
No traffic signal there and MacArthur, as he says, is making a double curve
there. It's much safer to ride through Lansbrook. There's never much traffic
on those streets, and it's a very nice neighborhood.

Does the trail really go all the way to Hefner Road? That would take
you to the bottom (north side) of the dam - where do you go from there?
I would think Britton Road would be the better road to take over to the
lake, as it runs right into the road around the lake...

I keep meaning to try that trail out, not overly fond of the idea of
Wilshire across to NW Hwy, last time I drove that it was pretty darn
rough... In more ways than one...!

A third option for getting to the lake, after crossing Wilshire, go
ahead and find the trail (it starts at the back end of the parking lot
behind the City Bites - ought to find it if you head for the 6-story
Weokie CU building behind it, their parking lots *almost* touch!) then
when you get up to MacArthur, cross there - the road directly across
MacArthur runs into the lake road as well. Of course, as with just
about ANY street crossing in that area, be CAREFUL! MacArthur is plenty
busy, and that's at an S-curve in the road.

If you don't want to negotiate curbs right at MacArthur, you could cross
over into the Weokie parking lot - it has an entrance/exit at MacArthur
although it isn't directly across from the street. There's just a few
feet of grass separating that lot from the lot the trail runs to.

And I'm gonna miss the ride tonight... Got tied up at work, of all
things - first time in months! Grr...

Joe

I've ridden both ways and I don't like crossing all those city streets, so I prefer to cross where the bike path comes out near the canal...even though there...
