Where are you located? What woould te approximate price be to cut 4 hubs from
3/8" plate. the hubs are 5" diameter steel with a 2" center hole and 5-on 4.5"
bolt circle.

are you able to do some manufacturing yourself? if you are willing to
get your hands dirty, look into either desertcarts or the edge

accept a VW powered rail you will have no problem finding what your
looking for.2 Seater rail for 3500.00 are a dime a dozen.
If you want more a off road buggy then you will pay a lot more.

If you are using a briggs flat head you can mount it horozontaly, but
you have to install a oil dipper or flinger on the bottom of the con rod.

I looked for messages from you and could not find any, so sorry if
this is the same question you get all the time.  How were you able
to get the vertical shaft of the lawn mower engine to work with a
horizontal setup. Any and all info you have would be great.  Do you
have a websight documenting your buildup?  Where can you buy
whatever part it takes to change from vertical to horizontal

i was planing on using pto shafts with custom made trailing
arms..... that or jack some t-1 cvjoints and axles out of a VW....
w/e works lol dont know about a bolt on kit tho....i would also like
some more insight to this....

This is a easy update,nothing new to say.Busy time of year and i am
hitting the part AGAIN where i am sick of working on the buggy.I
started building us a new master bath 1 1/2 years ago and really need
to get back to work on that for awhile.I still plan to have the R6
done this spring but i need a break for a bit.If you seen our future
master bath you would understand why i need to get going on it.Its
been rough plumbed and framed since early spring and just siting
there.
we are currently working a deal with a developer that is tring to
build a huge mall in our back yard.They have already spent over 8 mil
on property adjoining ours.They only want just less than 1/2 acre of
my property for what they want to do and the 35K they are offering is
sounding tempting.It would help us out a ton and make theses projects
much more affordable.

hello all new to this group , we have a murray built kart with a 6
hp side shaft engine on it it does ok but wanting more power , we
are wanting to go to a 10-18 hp side shaft engine , if anyone has or

eventhough i am a chemist, all majors are welcome so i can continue my
love of this wonderful sport. i have taken some pictures of the build
that i will post when i can. i have to talk with Max (the team leader)
to see if this is ok because this is a competition.

with our build we started with a steel table. we had some scrap pieces
of tube that we milled with a holesaw so that every length was the
same and we used this as a base for our frame. at first it was a pain
but it paid off in the end. last weekend max and myself (the only ones
that showed to work the whole weekend) took the frame off the jig and
placed it on the ground. no rocking at all. we measured some lengths
from a few places and everything seems to be in place completely to
the design that we have in autocad. this is just a thought for anyone
that has a table big enough for this jig. the table has to be bigger

yes, you are right-- but there are some groups/organizations you can
join to prevent these city slickers from overrunning our riding
areas. search for these groups -- or I can find the clubs/groups and
post them -- lemme know

There are a lot of riding areas in NC, but they are spaced evenly
apart and uh.... long drive to a few of them.

I've sold my buggies and most of the parts I had laying around.  I
still have all my fab tools, but do most/all of my work at school
(which is a long way from home).

I have recently purchased a four wheeler so I can go home on the
breaks and ride.  I also have a group at ncatvtrails that rides most
every weekend at various location in NC... but I can't make it but
once every 6-8 weeks.... oh well so goes life.

Hey --

Yeah i'm still around -- i apologize for neglecting the group for
quite some time now.

I am concentrating in mechanical engineeering.. in fact I'm almost
done.

My senior design is the mini-baja project-- I'm the team captain and
there are 6 students on the design/build team.  I will post a link
to our website soon.

I'm working on applying to polaris industries as a project engineer
or senior design engineer-- we'll see what happens with that.  I'd
really enjoy that kind of work/job/career.

How are the projects going? Anything new?  Pictures?

just about everyone owns an ATV, except for the newcomer city A-holes who move
here and screw it up with their showcase homes manacured lawns...

I think he's concentrating on his studies in Mechanical Engineering. I agree
though, this group has served the smaller budget and smaller powerplant

Well after a couple weeks on messing around i am finnaly on line
out in the shop.I ended up bring my hard drive down to a repair shop
and they found that all the drivers had been deleated and needed
reinstalled.They reworked the whole pc and did a new installe on
everything for $80.00.So i brought the pc home and it worked fine but
still would not connect the internet.I have the shop pc connected to
a linksys router at the house,The router has lights that show when a
pc is properly connected,the house pc would show a solid light on the
router while the shop pc would have a blinking light.I called
linksys,best buys and radio shack and talked to 3 different tech guys
and they all said the blinking light was fine.B.S. Shows what they
know.My shop pc is about 175' from the router so i had made my own
patch cable,I found the problem was with one of my crimped ends that
i did,As soon as i found the problem and corrected it both lights
stayed on steady and the pc connected to the net so here i am.Now you
guys i have to deal with me much more often.I am considering hooking
up a shop build cam.What do you think?

This is being circulated, thought you might be interested.

Ok all of you  off-road desert racing nuts. Here is the story. I
have been priveledged  enough to have been invited to be on "Wind
Tunnel" with Dave Despain on  this coming Monday November 15th at
7:00pm pacific to talk about this  years Baja 1000. They are going
to shoot my part of the segment at my race  shop that night.

This is where all of you come in. This is our  chance to show Speed
Channel how big desert racing is and that they need  to be covering
our sport more often, and give it the press it deserves.  This is
how we can do it. We need anyone and everyone to either call in
during the show or email questions to the show,and the questions can
even  be just about desert racing in general. This can be done at 1-
866-W-Tunnel  or email at windtunnel@.... I want  them to
get bombarded with response from all of you. We need to show them
the fans are out there and they want more desert racing. Tell
everyone you  know. Lets continue to promote this sport and give it
the attention it  truly deserves.

Like I said, this is our chance to show the nation  that we are a
sport that deserves television coverage. We have some  awesome
people and fans in our industry with some great stories to be  told,
just like, if not better than the other forms or racing out there
that are getting the air time. Lets all pull together and show your
support.

The side plates i did have laser cut,Everything else i fabbed myself
on the lathe.The total cost into the cassette is around 600.00 Most
of that cost is the 4 CV bearings that were $107.00 each.

I haven't come to this site in quite some time now, I am inpressed
with your drive cassette! Did you manufacture the entire unit or sis
you have someone cnc the plates? I have to make a cassette up for my
independent kart was the $600.00 what it cost you to complete the
kit?

No post in nearly a month,Whats happening here.Well i just thought i
would make a post so the group wouldnt get shut down by yahoo.

Well here it finally is.After almost 2 months and $600.00 later the
drive cassette is 99% done.All that is left is mounting tabs.Drive
sprocket,Rotor and caliper will be mounted later.
The total weight of the box comes in at 45LBS not including,Drive
sprocket and rotor,Not to bad but still quite heavy for a "lite
car".Notice how far inboard the CV's are,Oh baby can you say monster
travel.
The next step is to mount the cassette and the motor then we can see
if this beast runs,Cross your fingers,Mine are!!!
I must say Mcmaster Carr has come thru again,I ordered all stainless
bolts for the cassette on monday night about 10:00 pm and when i got
home today about 4:30 PM they were sitting at my door.I recommend
them for just about anything you could ever need.

I have added pics of the cassette to my folder under "bills
sidewinder", (unless you are reading this on the pooa board then the
pics are below,DUH.)
