I joined this group because I belived it was a place where as a fan,
I could exchange ideas with other faithful follwers of Gang Green.
There has been very little activity in this group but I guess a 2-6
record has a way of killing conversation. However, I have not given
up hope and to that end offer a couple of tidbits for discussion.
1. Wayne needs to stop playing for his health and his family. He is
without a doubt one of the grittiest players the Jets have ever had.
He plays with so much heart. It was so hard to see him lying on the
turf and seeing that close-up of him as he was dealing with yet
another concussion. He needs to stop playing, the only thing he
needs to look at is Al Toon another great receiver, who suffered from
the same condition. If he keeps playing it will be at substantial
risk to his well being and that is something the Jets should not
allow to happen. If that was his last catch as a football player he
went out like he came in making the clutch grab to give the Jets a
needed first down.
2. Mike Nugent maybe a bust. Granted he has not had a lot of
opporunities to kick filed Goals but he needs to take advantage of
the opportunities when he gets them. I would also like to see him
kick at least one ball game in to the end zone. His kickoffs are
routinely very short with the receiveing team catching the abll at
the ten yard line or better. He needs to be more consistent.
3. Brooks needs to play. Bollinger did a great job coming in for
Vinny and gave us a chance to win the game. (Notwithstanding the fact
that had Nugent been true we would have won) He made plays and made a
great throw to McCariens that he should have caught that would have
given us the victory. At this point in the season, we have nothing
to lose. While we are not eliminated from the playoffs, history shows
that 2-6 teams do not make the playoffs. Let Bollinger finish the
season. If nothing else wil will find out if he can play on the NFL
level.
4. Chad maybe finsihed. Look, I like Chad but he never had the
stongest arm, which has probably been made worse by what is now two
surgeries on his rotator cuff. While we have a lot invested in him,
I don't belive that he is physically capable of getting this team to
the big game. We should accept this and look at QB's in the draft.
5. Pay John Abraham. The reason the Jets gave for not wanting to
sign Abraham to a long term deal is because he cannot stay healthy.
In light of Pennington's continuing health issues and his inability
to stay on the field, that rationale really does not work. He is a
great rusher and we need him to put pressure on the QB. The Jets
need to pay the man and get it done as ssson as possible.
6. Cedric Huston needs more carries. Martin has a bad knee and
Blaylock is one of the several fallen players in the MASH unit.
Let'sfind out if the kid can play, and if so let us not make the same
mistake we made with Lamont Jordan. This will establish Huston and
extend Martin's career.
