30.07.2005/ Hannover seems to be an ideal hunting ground for Jan Ullrich:
the T-Mobile captain won the the "Nacht von Hannover" criterium on Friday
evening for the fifth time. After 100 laps (62 km) of the inner-city
circuit, local rider Grischa Niermann (Rabobank) placed second behind
Ullrich, with Liberty Seguros rider Jörg Jaksche in third.
In front of 50,000 enthusiastic fans, Ullrich was part of a leading group of
four riders that jumped clear with three laps to race, before edging out his
companions to take a solo victory. Shortly afterwards, Ullrich's team mate
Erik Zabel led home the main field to take fifth.
"It is simply great fun to ride here. The spectators really urge you on,"
said the Tour third place rider, who also won a criterium race in
Mayrhofen/Austria on Thursday evening.
Ullrich's next race is at the HEW Cyclassics ProTour race in Hamburg on
Sunday, where a strong field of riders, including top sprinters Tom Boonen
and Alessandro Petacchi, will make life difficult for the T-Mobile captain.
