Attention club mates,
I'm looking for a pair of road brake levers/shifters used, in good order.
Campy will do but Shimano 8-speed is the ideal.
If you or someone you know has an old pair not in use then why not turn dust into CASH!
RSVP
Sincerest thanks, hope you are all well.
Gary Scully
P.S. I plan to organize a nice looooong road training ride for sometime in March. Watch for it.

Hi again,

I hate to say this but our clothing order is at risk this year. I have
received orders from 10 members only and therefore am nowhere near to having
the minimum quantities necessary to place an order with Sugoi. The shorts
and jerseys are re-orders so the minimum number is 24 whereas, since the
jackets and arm warmers are new items, the minimum order quantity is 36.

I understand that this is the middle of winter and that cycling might not be
top-of-mind for everyone but we do need to place the order quickly if we
want the goods by April.

So please, if you intend to purchase any club clothing this year, you must
let me know.

Also, we will need payment before placing the order to satisfy the Sugoi
policy so I will let you know how to get the funds to the club (my mistake
for not mentioning this earlier).

Cheers all,

François Faust

PS Thanks to those that have replied

Hi,

I've been sent a box of tour brochures from Les Voyages du Tour de l'Ile ( www.velo.qc.ca ). They also included brochures of Quebec Route verte ( www.routeverte.com ). Let me know if you would like some. You can either pick them up from my place or I can mail them to you (if you buy me a coffee some time to pay for the stamps).

Hi all,

Hope you are having a pleasant start to the New Year.

It is now time for us to place our clothing order for the upcoming season.
Sugoi is quoting an 8-week delivery so I need to get your replies in
quickly; I would like to order by 23 January to get the stuff in by the end
of March.

As you can see from the attached form, we are offering 5 items this year.
The jacket and arm warmers are brand new while the shorts and jerseys have
slightly different logos. The jacket is a nice all around technical piece
and you can view its features at
http://www.sugoi.ca/custom/options.aspx?s.styleID=9&page=customNordic

Please go over the attached form and let me know:

- What items you want
- How many of each
- What size

Quoted prices do not include GST & PST and are for quantities of 36. If we
order more than 50 of individual items, we will get an additional discount
so the prices will come down a bit more.

You can either:
-Reply to this e-mail
-Fax the order form to my attention at (905) 673-8733
-Call me at home at (905) 825-2675

I will advise once the clothing is in and ready for pick up.

Cheers all,

François Faust

Hi everyone,
Just thought I'd be first out of the blocks to wishing everyone a safe and joyous holiday as well as a healthy and fit entry to the new calendar.
I have a feeling the local scene will be inspired by what we saw on the mountain in Hamilton this year.
Its sunny and plus 3 at the moment, so  I'm off for a spin to Campbellville.

Although it was very short notice, myself and other few people were able to
attend the Environmental Assessment Information Centre on Dec. 9th. regarding
the proposed changes to hwy. 405 the bridge and it's approaches.

In summary, the proposal they are favouring (carry forward) is one which will
see access to the bridge closed from the Niagara Parkway. Access onto the
bridge will then only be from 405 hwy.which is a controlled access hwy and
cyclist are prohibited. They studied four alternatives, and the only one which
would continue to permit cyclist was the "Do Nothing" one. And that is not
going to happen.

The sidewalk issue I feel is a dead horse, they closed the walk following 9/11,
without any hassle and are in desperate need to find additional space on the
bridge for designated trucklanes, and the sidewalks are going to give them the
needed space. Although it should not have surprised me the "Alternatives
Evaluation" never mentioned cyclist, let alone pedestrians.

Frank Pravitz an active member of the RNBC (Eng. Task Force) also attended and
has an idea which he plans to put forth and although it would mean cyclist would
have to access the bridge via a pedestrian catwalk they propose to construct for
staff, and could be a zig/zag type ramp instead of stairs. Although not
perfect, it has the potential of at least maintaining some type of access onto
the bridge for cyclists and would not be much in added expense.

It has to be appreciated that this is a very involved & complex issue and those
who attended were continuously reminded about safety, (the mix of bikes, with
cars and trucks), SECURITY, (Canada & U.S. Custom & Immigration staff have some
kind of difficulty with processing cyclist) and the feeling that the bridge only
had six cyclists cross it last year. A number we really questioned. I would
have to say they were surprised that cycling was maybe going to become an issue.
They also mentioned there were three other bridges, however the Whirlpool is now
only open to Nexus Pass Holders and we are becoming increasingly concerned about
how much longer cyclist will have access to the Peace Bridge.

I believe the key to having some type of success with this issue is our
stressing the importance of having a crossing which ties together the Lake
Ontario Waterfront Trail, & The Great Circle Route with the U.S. Trails and
being the Seaway, Erie Canal and the one they are presently developing along the
river, Youngstown, to Buffalo. The just published Niagara Bikeways Master Plan
vision is to develop an integrated system of bikeways across Niagara, which will
provide a visible and easily accessible cycling network as a means of
facilitating the use of bicycles for leisure, recreation, utilitarian, and
tourism purposes. Having a direct linkage to the U.S. trail system is of utmost
importance if we ever hope to accomplish the vision of Niagara becoming a
cycling Mecca for the residents of Niagara & tourism.

Whatever the outcome is, it will cast the die for the other bridges and
determine whether cyclists are going to be further limited as to were they might
wish to travel.

I encourage the cycling community to provide comments to the Consultants and
additional information is also availble from them.

Hi all,

Please help me out by replying to this e-mail. I am now responsible for the
club's clothing file.

Could you tell me what are the clothing items that you would like for the
next riding season? I am not asking for a commitment at this time but am
rather trying to get a feel for what I should put on the order form that I
will send out to all members shortly.

What's your wish list? (jerseys, shorts, bib shorts, jackets, arm warmers,
etc.?) You can see what is available at
http://www.sugoi.ca/custom/custom.aspx?sportID=1&dynamic=T

One question: if we have enough demand to go for a jacket, should we go for
a nylon shell or something warmer - more of a three-season piece?

Feel free to forward any questions or comments.

Thanks,

François Faust

Is there something new that I should know about???

This message is for women in the Club and/or
friends/wives/mother/daughters of Club members. Please pass this
email along!

A number of women have been asking about cycling outings to get
started/restarted into riding.

We wondered who might be interested in the following:

1) Women's only weekly spinning class through the winter -- to get
ourselves ready for the spring riding -- you can ride at your own
pace and build up intensity over the winter as much or little as you
like!

2) Relatively easy paced riding (ie. leave no one behind!) in the
spring to get everyone restarted on the road -- probably once every
week or two during the early season.

Please email me if you are interested, and we'll work out details to
suit.

Hello Everyone:

> Further to my e-mail earlier this month...here is the information regarding
next week's OCC Awards/Social Night:

On behalf the Oakville Cycling Club, I would like to invite you and yours to
attend an evening of fun and fellowship with your fellow club members and to
recognise those who achieved and contributed that little extra bit during the
course of the year while participating in Club and/or OCA activities.

The awards/social night will be on Saturday Evening Nov22nd at the Loon at

have booked at the pub just for us. This room is reserved from 6pm and on. The
evening is broken down in 2 distinct parts.

> From 6:00pm to 7:30pm the reserved room is open for dinner. There is no
pre-payment required this year. Just order and pay from the excellent menu for
what you want. The food is great and quite reasonable in price - and they have
an extensive selection of beer (bottle and tap) and wines. This way, if you
don't want to cook dinner at home, arrive at 6ish and enjoy a nice quiet dinner
before the actual event takes place.

please show up for 7:30pm. Things will wrap up by about 9:00. Appetizers/finger

I have already had many e-mails expressing interest - some from outside of the
club. So act fast.

Please e-mail you RSVP to:

jo.marangi@...

I will get RSVP's for the 2nd session later.

Thanks,

Joe

Hello Everyone:

Its that time of year again.

The 2003 Oakville Cycling Club's Award & End of Season Get-together will be
held:

Time: SATURDAY November 22nd
Place: The Loon & Firkin Pub - 256 Church St. Oakville (Downtown)
Dinner/Cocktails: 6:00-7:30pm
Awards/Social: 7:30 - 9:00pm

We have a separate room reserved especially for us in the pub (aptly named the
"loonie bin". I have checked out this location (just opened) and I am really
impressed. The locale is cozy and the staff is both friendly and professional -
while providing lots of room to mingle. Complete with dinner tables, pool table
and more - you will have a chance to catch up on a few conversations, see your
fellow OCC members and have a chance to congratulate those who achieved that
something extra during the 2003 season.
I will be sending out a formal e-mail later this week requesting RSVP's and
giving more information on how you can attend.

Until then...mark your dayplanners and plan on being there.

The racing and excitement is tremendous ... especially with some road friends from the club who can tell me who's who. Attached is a photo of Eric Wohlberg who did very well finishing 25th and +3:29 down on the winner David Miller (GBR) who finished the 41.3k (2 laps) in a blistering 51:17 for an average speed of 48.3kph. Eric's time was pretty good considering 2nd place was +1:25.

To echo Gary some of you missed a great ride. Yes there was the odd sun shower, but mostly we enjoyed the brilliant rainbows, blue skys and rolling clouds, invigorating fall air, great roads, and company of friends. My thanks to Gary and the group for stopping and helping me repair a tire with a staple and some glass in it!

Of course with the soaking we had going up Watson Rd, it was probably the
right thing in cutting the Eden Mills portion out, saving us an additional
1/2 hr in soggy glove and pantalone.  In better weather, Eden is sweet...
Keeping group rides like this a regular thing throughout the winter will
inject some much needed endurance come spring.
