Hi All,

As great as it looks out there right now, the forecast is for thunder showers over night and Sunday from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM

Let me look at the weather forecast by 7:30 Sunday AM and send out another update at 7:30 AM

On 24-May-07, at 9:06 PM, Robert Narejko wrote:

Hi All,

The weather forecast has changed for the worse for Sunday - 80% chance of rain and a 25 kph wind

I will send an e-mail to the group by 4:00 PM on Saturday if the ride will still be on

Here is the route: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=976484  (courtesy of Daryl LeBlanc)
please print a copy for yourself if you think you will need it

I have also made a change to the 'food stop'
- it will now be at 16 Mile 'parkette' and at the END OF THE RIDE, instead of at the 1/2 way mark
   - the parkette is further west of 6th Line, along Lower Base Line, just before the single lane wooden bridge
- this is a Halton Region Conservation area, but there is no fee
- the parking lot is not paved
   - you can park you cars there or at 6th Line and Lower Base Line
  - by moving the 'food stop' to this location, we can take more time for socializing after the ride and not be concerned about spending too much time on the 1/2 way break and risk tightening up and cooling down too much

So make sure you bring enough gatorade and pack some food to feed yourself until the end of the ride
There are a few stores along the way, but not many

Rob.

Further to Rob’s note below, please note the starting location for this Sunday’s ride is LOWER BASE LINE & 6TH LINE rather than our usual location of Neyagawa andDundas.

Also, please let Rob know by email (rnarejko@sympatico.ca) IF YOU PLAN TO GO ON THE RIDE, so he can make sure there are enough refreshments for everyone.

Thanks

Hi All,

The last Sunday of every month is a 'special', more social, Oakville
Cycle Club ride
At approximately the half-way mark, there will be refreshments/snack
- watermelon, fig newtons... things like that, supplied by the club

There will be two ride lengths. One of about 70 km, the other of
about 100km
We will stop in Terra Cotta for 15 min or so and eat the snacks and chat
The shorter distance group can then turn back and the longer distance
group can continue on
Maps will be supplied on the day of the ride
There will probably be 2 groups going up, based on rider speed, but
we will see how many people turn out for the ride

To help in the planning of this event, if you could PLEASE E-MAIL ME
with a response ONLY IF YOU ARE GOING

Sunday is looking to be sunny, 23 C, with a 10 kph wind - perfect
cycling weather!

Please e-mail me if you have questions

Thx! :)

Rob.

Hi All,

The weather is warming up and the riders are coming out!
We had 10 riders last night covering just under 60 km
The pace line was working and the pace was quick - fast in some places!

If you are interested in joining our Tues and Thurs evening rides (6:00 PM) and
the Sat and
Sunday AM rides (9:00 AM ) please come out. Regular riding will get you in shape
faster
and the more riders we have, the better the club atmosphere.

Tues, Thurs and Sat rides are from Walker's Line and Dundas, just behind the Tim
Horton's
drive thru in the Longo's Plaza

Sunday we leave from Lower Base Line and 6th Line. There is limited car parking
at the
South west corner.

Go here for more details: http://www.oakvillecc.com/briskpacerides.shtml

No one gets dropped without thier consent

Have a great day!

Hi there,

For anyone doing the club time trials, I have a size large OCC Sugoi
skinsuit for sale. This is a spare that I had and I may have worn it once or
twice at the most. This is worth about $120 at cost and I am asking $75; it
is a bit too big for me and I have lots of others to use. This is not
something that you will be able to find elsewhere since only a limited
number were ordered.

Also, I will be selling a Cervelo P3 TT bike but have not figured out a
price yet nor if I would sell with wheels or not. It's in the 54 cm range
and equipped with Dura Ace 9-speed group - bar-end shifters and all. Selling
because I bought a Carbon P3.

While I'm at it, I have a Bontrager Aero-X Power Tap SL (the top one)
complete wheel/system for sale. This is a "factory built" Bontrager system
worth about $1,700. Asking $1,100. Selling because I will be upgrading to
the wireless system but it costs about double.

I will be putting this on the CC Forum later but thought I would offer it
locally first.

Dear Members,

For those of you who would like to look your best in the club’s colours there is good news: we have extended the deadline for ordering new clothing to the end of April, so you still have a chance to order.  This year we have:

  • Jerseys
  • Shorts
  • Vests
  • Jackets

all with the Oakville Cycling Club colours and design. The supply this year will only be on an order basis and we don’t carry additional inventory, so if you want clothing you must order now, and the prices have never been this good. To order, either fill out the order form sent to you with your membership application earlier or download a copy from our web site: http://www.oakvillecc.com/jointoday.shtml. Completed forms with a cheque for the order should be sent to:

Bent Fink-Jensen

1202 Owen Court

Oakville, ON, L6H 1V3

Also, if you haven’t sent in your membership application yet, now is the time to do so as spring is here (we hope). You should already have received the application forms or you can download them from the web site address above. We encourage you to come out and ride as a club!

Dear Biking Enthusiast,
Andrew and I, are two brothers from Manitoulin Island. Andrew has
just completed his first year of university and I am graduating high
school this year. We have started a company called Brother Bears Bike
Tours on Manitoulin Island. We are offering an exciting and very
beautiful all inclusive bike tour of Manitoulin Island suitable for all
levels of experience. We plan to cater to bike clubs from Canada and the
Northern States that are looking for something new and unique.
Bikers can arrive by ferry on the Chichimaun from Tobermory(4
hours north of Toronto along the Bruce peninsula) or by the bridge at
Little
Current(1.5 hours south west of Sudbury). We would meet your group and
provide all the logistics.
--> Our routes evolve around your needs. We can set up trips starting
--> from
60km a day and getting as long as you would like. We provide a
knowledgeable guide who is very familiar with the roads and land(Andrew
or myself) who will travel with the group and will be able to answer
questions about the trail and the island.
-->Your gear would be transported to the camping sites for you. The
-->camping
is on private property and is some of the most scenic on the Island(the
first night is at private beach side camp site and the second is atop
McLeans Mountain looking out to the North Channel).
-->The food will be fresh and organic from our own garden.
-->We could provide a limited number of bikes for those who could not
-->supply
their own, as we also run day tours and rent bikes during the week.
--> The three day trips, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, (weekday trips can be
arranged) cost $250 per person, discounts are available for larger
groups.
We would appreciate if you could spread the word and let us know if some
of your group might be interested in a booking a tour. (We anticipate
the Friday evening to Sunday evening tours will book up quickly)This is
a new and unique trip that you wont want to miss out on. If you have any

DISCOVERY LANDING

Where along the Waterfront Trail can you see a 2 meter high tornado?   Discovery Landing offers you the chance to see and feel how a tornado forms as well as learn about how Lake Ontario influences our weather and ecosystem.  There are over 14,200 square feet to discover, offering a place to break from a bike ride along the Waterfront Trail, an activity after a picnic, or a building to admire during a walk along Burlington’s waterfront.

The Dofasco Waterjet Plaza, beside Discovery Landing, will open on May 19th, offering another unique and fun way to cool off this summer.

Find out more about the Waterfront Trail in Burlington and download a map at: http://www.waterfronttrail.org/trail-p-burlington.html.

THE WORLD’S BIGGEST BIKE FEST

Steve Bauer Tours will be leading a group from Cornwall to Montreal to take part in the World’s Biggest Bike Festival. The week long festival attracts 45,000 people from all over the world and shuts down city streets for cyclists, offers a tour of the city at night, and a lively musical tour.  Space is limited, the package flexible, and camaraderie is guaranteed.

Experienced guides, accommodation, meals and snacks are provided.  To sign up or request more information, contact Vicki at vb@... or 416-943-8080.

me that he wants $1,700 for the set but I think that he might accept a bit
less.

I've been riding with a Power Tap myself for a year and I can vouch that
it's a great training tool; as opposed to heart rate, power doesn't lie.
These come with the heart rate strap and the downloading cradle so you can

Fellow Bikers

In addition to being your Secretary in the OCC I also run my own bike touring business: Tailwind Touring.

At the moment I have tours lined up as follows:

  1. Finger Lakes New York – June 2-7
  2. Copenhagen and Northern Sealand in Denmark – August 18-24
  3. Provence France – September 15-25

I specialize in tours for smaller groups of individuals in the 40-70(+) age group and daily average is about 50 km per day. So the distance and pace and terrain are all fairly moderate. The focus of my tours is the enjoyment of spectacular scenery, good food and good company.

I will of course offer a discount to OCC members if you sign up for a tour.

I know that many of you don’t fall in the 40-70+ age group but if you don’t, I am sure you know someone who does and who might be interested. And for everyone you refer and who sign up I will pay you $50.  It could be the easiest money you ever get!

So don’t be shy – sign up for a great ride or send this information to everyone else who you think would be interested.

To check out my tours in more detail, go to my web site: www.tailwindtouring.com or you can contact me directly at 905-842-8861

Subject: LIFE$TYLE$ 24 HOUR - MARCH BROADCAST

Greetings to everyone! I hope all is well and that you're training hard
for the upcoming season. Personally I'm getting tired of riding the
trainer. I had some great rides in January and early Feb but its either
been too cold or too icy around here for a good ride. However, the birds
are now singing just after 6am so spring isn't far off.

Unlike most years I haven't troubled you with lots of emails leading up
to the race. Instead I've invested a lot of time behind the scenes
getting everything in place much earlier than normal.

Here's how planning is going:
1) Number plates ordered.
2) Medals ordered.
3) St. John Ambulance confirmed.
4) 95% of our staff confirmed to help.
5) 2nd place prizes confirmed.

6) Menu confirmed. I just met with Chef Danielle and we've worked out
this year's menu. Some returning features, but new items as well.
Saturday Lunch - jambalaya
Saturday Dinner - farfalle pasta with veggies in either olio sauce or
tomato sauce + garlic bread, etc. (and of course Danielle's home made
cookies for an evening snack) Sunday Breakfast - blueberry pancakes with
Brandt Meat sausages Sunday Finale Dinner - lemon herb roast chicken
with double roasted potatoes and additional sides.

We hope you like that menu. Feedback is welcome and encouraged.

ADDITIONAL MENU CONCERNS - if anyone receiving this email (solos and
team captains) has any dietary concerns we are fully prepared to
accomodate those concerns. However, we need to plan in advance.
Therefore we need to know what we can do for you no later than Monday
April 30th. TEAM CAPTAINS - find out if anyone on your team has dietary
concerns and let us know, identifying this person by name. We are going
to have special meal ID for those with these concerns. Chef Danielle is
a real chef. She has training to prepare foods for vegetarians, wheat
allergies etc. She is happy to do it, but she can't read people's minds
to know what they want/need. Please give us some advance warning and
we'll bend over backwards to look after you.

7) Race course. Yes, your home for May 19/20th. If you would like to
look at the preliminary course design follow this link -
http://www.wowmtb.com/LifeMap2007.html

The main differences are that we aren't going to use "45" this year.
Instead you'll go up the hill above the Start/Finish. There are a couple
of new things along the top of the ridge as well. The big change is on
the west part of the course we're you'll come down the challenging
Zach's Revenge Trail (twisty turny singletrack - definitely not high
speed) and then a good climb on a piece of singletrack that I haven't
put in the race before. I've got lots of options in this area if the
weather is bad. I estimate the distance has gone up marginally by about
400m to approx. 13km per lap. I'll of course GPS the route once the snow
has gone. Comments are welcome.

In addition we still have room for one more team and a couple of solos.
If you know of anyone who is interested please send them my way. I'd
love to have these spots occupied by women, but men are of course
welcome.

REMINDER - THE BALANCE OF THE DEPOSIT IS DUE APRIL 1ST. Thanks to all of
you eager riders who have sent their payment in advance of this date.

Happy Trails!

Mike, W.O.W.

Fellow Members

Yes, it is time to renew your membership in the Oakville Cycling Club so you can continue to enjoy our cycling activities from leisure road riding, touring, faster paced road training rides, road racing and time trials, to mountain biking.

In the next few days we will be mailing out membership forms to our 2006 members to complete and mail in along with a clothing order form, in case you want to look your best on your bike.  However, you do not have to wait for the mail to arrive. You can go to our web site at http://www.oakvillecc.com/jointoday.shtml and download and print the required forms.  The deadline for clothing orders, if you want them this spring, is March 31 so hurry and get your forms completed and mailed in.

Many of you may know other people who are interested in biking, so this year we would like to take advantage of that by reducing your own membership fee. If a new member joins, who has been referred by you, they can indicate so in the Referral section on the bottom of the membership form. For every new member you refer you will receive $5 off your membership fee up to a maximum of $50.  How good is that!

We look forward to your continued membership and participation in 2007.

Regards

Bent Fink-Jensen
