Hi All,
OUr first race is on April 22nd at the Zimmerman course. To start the
season off I have volunteered as on official for this first race
however we need 3 volunteers to to a good job and get all the results
cleanly. Why not do your duty early in the season and join me at the
road side on April 22nd.
If that doesn't work for you our first TT is at Moffat on May 3rd;
maybe that's a better option for you.
I look forward to our brand new season with lots of enthusiasm as I am
sure you do. If you have not tried racing before we have designed some
beginner races too; the first one is also on April 22nd. If I can do
it so can you!!
I hope to see you on the road really soon
Regards
Terry Rooney
Racing Secretary.

Another title would be Escalated Road Rage. If I was in the cyclist's place
I hope that I would have told the motorist off, told him to pick-up the

i did not see the beginning of this, but the report goes as follows:
motorist throws food out of window. courier, disliking littering, picks up
food and throws food back in car. motorist dumps coffee on courier. courier
scratches car with key. road rage ensues.
the courier is female. i 'got away' with taking pics by just doing it

at hand.
i followed the motorist back to his car to photograph his license plate

me. i walked away, and was one of only two witnesses to stay at the scene
and give a statement to police.

FYI
If the club is planning races for 06 schedule at the AGM thought I'd pass
along that Andrew's farm course is now probably unusable in it's present
configuration ...there is now a four way stop at the 4th Line and 10th
Side Rd. intersection. One possible modification would be to turn right (
south ) on 4th Line from 15th and turn right onto 10th ( at the new four
way ) making what I think is a 11.5Km circuit.
Cheers

Hi fellow OCC members,
Vellendtech is one of the Oakville Cyclepath Race Team's valued sponsors.
Once a year they open their doors on a Saturday for the OCRT to do some
shopping at great prices. This year it is going to be this Saturday Jan 14th
at 9am.
This year when I asked Diane Cito (our Vellendtech sales rep) if we could
bring some friends she said yes. When I asked if inviting OCC would be ok
she said sure more is better as they have 2005 Descente clothing that they
are willing to sell off near wholesale prices.
If possible please let me know ( greg.andre-barrett@... ) if you
might be coming so that I can can give Diane a heads up on the potential
number of people coming.
The open house for OCRT and the OCC and friends is going to be this Saturday

Hello Everyone:
I hope everyone is doing fine and still enjoying a ride or two - given that the
mercury is staying above zero.
I just wanted to keep everyone up to date regarding our usual end of season get
together/social/awards night.
This year, we will be doing something slightly different, in that the event will
not take place in November - rather it will take place in January. We've found
that it is becoming increasingly difficult to get people to come out at this
time of year. People have told us that they'd love to attend our functions in
November, much they just have too much going on with the usual Family/Work
Holiday functions that take up much of our calendars.
On the other hand, there really isn't that much going on in january. With the
holidays over by then, the OCC get-together will give everyone a chance to get
out and see their friends.
I will be posting more information (i.e., date/venue) shortly regarding this.
Please stay tuned.
All the best,
Joe Marangi
Oakville CC
I would have loved to have come out for the ride. After a winter of
training, and a good beginning of the season, me summer/fall has 'fallen'
apart. Work has gotten the best of me. I write this sitting in St. John's,
NL, as my legs continue to shrivel away. Sorry I couldn't make it out. The
ride sounded right up my alley at this point.
Take Care, All!

PS Is there a social coming up in Nov/Dec?

Sorry, the last message went out before I was able to modify it. The
intent was to invite everybody out to our rides to the subject
starting location, for a 10:00 AM sharp start time.
The pace is easy, we ride on nice quiet back roads, and end up doing
30-50 km distances with average speeds ranging 24-27 km/h, but also
slower if slower riders come out.
Hope to see you out this weekend, it is forecasted to be really nice.
This invitation is perpetual, until weather does not permit us to
ride, say February. Just show up and enjoy the ride.

A few of the usual crew from the Saturday Morning group that rides out of
Dundas and Walker's Line have been talking about moving the departure time
back to 10am. This will get us out on the road when the weather is a bit
warmer. If there are any feelings about this change let me know. We will
move the time to suit the needs of the group.

Hello Everyone in The Oakville Cycling Club,
(this notice is being sent to everyone, including those already registered -
see footnote)
I have great news for those of you that thought it was too late. I have an
opportunity to have two more people join up to our TEN week spin program. It
will be held at CycleFit under the direction of Adam Scott. We have
SEVENTEEN spots confirmed, NINETEEN would be amazing.
If you are still interested, please either reply by e-mail or call me to
confirm your spot(s) or ask questions.
You don't need to be a rocket roadie or massive mtb'r to participate. This
is for riders of all levels. What you get from attending these classes is
the ability to maintain some of your summer riding fitness and to help
refine or find your technique. Everyone will be working within their own
heart rate levels (70-100%). There is no one to "keep up to" in these
classes. The advantage of coming is the motivation you get from being apart
of a group.
Looking forward to working with you on the bike!!!
Regards,
Adam - 416-992-6387 or my office 905-849-3672
P.S. If you think you might be interested in the New Year session starting
on January 10 - March 28, 2006, please let me know and I can put your name
on the waiting list as those that are currently signed up will get first
chance to re-join.
Hello roadies;
Now that the season is pretty well over, and the mornings are later, I
would like to keep our rides going, but move them to 10:00 AM.
I think the rain will stop and we will get some sun this Saturday, so
why don't you consider coming out for the fall riding this Saturday?
I've got some takers already, and I will lead the slower group, doing
20-23 km/h average pace. If you are interested, please e-mail me
back, so that I know you will be coming, or just show up. If you want
to introduce anyone else to our rides, this would a good time. I
would also recommend that the faster group change the starting time to
this new fall/winter time.
The dress code is long pants, arm warmers or long sleeved jersey,
and/or windbreaker. Of course gloves, helmet and cycling shoes should
not be forgotten.
I would like to see how long we can keep going this year, since we had
such a warm summer.
See you on the road!

with a storming ride to beat his closest competitor by over a minute! Nice
GOLD medal for Geoff! 40k in 53:36 (Smoking fast with that brutal wind on
Saturday!!)*
*Francois secured an excellent 11th in the same category. 56:53*
*Ian, an excellent 12th in the A division. 58:26*
*Dave equal time with Ian and a great 20th in the Senior mens. 58:27 *
* *
*Here are a few of the comments each of them had to say afterwards…*
Ian - "If you want a play-by-play from any of us on this event, it goes
like this. *"Ten seconds", "Go!"* Just under an hour of physical pain and
mental torture, shout out your number at the line. Oh yeah, stiff little
headwind on the outward leg, not as much tailwind as you were expecting on
the return leg. F#%$ing sufferfest."
Francois - "Yeah nothing much to add. It was freaking demoralizing; the
wind made every slight uphill (and I do mean very slight) feel hard. The
outbound for me was in the 32 – 40 kmh, which had me salivating for the
expected return only to realize that I couldn't hold a steady speed on the
return either seeing 42 – 50. 40 km is pretty long when it hurts."
Geoff - "the TT went well and had planned on going for a PB and I thought I
had until I looked down at the odometer after rolling to a stop at
Francois's van ...the reading was 39.75, and this was after doing approx 1/2
a Kilo from the finish line. So my best estimate was 39.25 or less...I
calibrated the speedo so it was not far out. I think the Binbrook course is
a lot closer 40 ....my speedo on this course reads within 100 meters. Anyway
the actual race went well aside from the hellish headwind on the way out but
we all had to contend with it. The no-brainer tactic here was to look ahead
and make the dot in the distance become larger. About 3k to the turn around
the dot had become a guy on a bike ...namely Hamish. Got by Hamish and
started to concentrate on the second dot ...Garnet, however I couldn't see
him for a while because of all the twists and turns as the course wound
along the riverside ...eventually I caught sight of GB in the green
D'ornallas kit and this was with about 5k to go. So not much more to add to
this ...it was a hard 40 and was glad it was over. I not much of a beer
drinker but I had some "Old Speckled Hen" cooling in the frig ...I downed 3
of them."
*What a fantastic last 2 weeks for the ORT.*
*And so the road race season officially ends.*
*The ORT will return in 2006. My tenure as acting manager has come to an
end. I've been pleased to work with and assist with the development of this
team over the past 3 years, but it's time I moved over and new blood steps
in to guide our course. I hope you continue to see the value of your support
to us and our appreciation of your contribution to this team. We'll keep in
touch over this "off" season and update you on any ongoing developments. So,
your reports won't be coming from me any longer, but they'll keep coming.*
*As always - many thanks for your continuing support. *
*Chris.*

*Happy autumn everyone. Most of us love summer with it's hot days, long warm
nights and family vacations. However, when sunny - the fall has to be the
most beautiful season. Somehow the skies get just a bit bluer. *
* *
*The race season for the ORT is gradually winding down, so there won't be
too many more "reports" from me. Yes, I can hear the pin drop with that
news…*
* *
*For this week, we have two races to report on. Gary took to the straights
and corners of Downsview park and Jeff flew home from school in B.C. (how's
that for commitment!!) for the last of the mtb O-cups right in our backyard,
Kelso. *
* *
*Here's Gary's race prose:*
" Race Report from Downsview Criterium, Sun, Sept 18, 2005
It felt good again to finish in the top 20 (19th) in a field of 40 in
splendid sunshine before a screeming throng of kids and parents all enjoying
the many attractions of the Downsview festival. With my lucky socks on and
Louise Faust's headband secure I felt I had the legs to win today. Oh, ya, I
had jets when I went for a couple of the 8 primes (!) valued from 20 to 60
bucks each (but was 3rd and 2nd, out of the money). I had jets when I became
annoyed by the bottle neck at the fore and went ahead to string things out
nice and neat, and, upon entering the final lap of the one hour race there
was still octane present. Fast forward past numerous prime-inspired, rapid
laps...Cramps in the quads is painful when you've lost too much salt but I
spun through it on the rise and dug deep to negotiate the abominable 3 km
course surface just one more time. The previous 14 laps were a rehersal for
the mad surge that will come after the last chicane and my position amid the
calamity of the bunch finale. However, it only takes a single spent (or
simply timid) rider to foil the "windiest" of intentions. Earlier in the
year, had I this sort of momentum, I might have made a few subtle
suggestions to the "furniture" I encountered on route to the line, but being
so near the end of the 2005 OCA road calendar, I elected to carefully and
politely step around it rather than stub my toe. The 200 dollar 1st prize
and all the cash that went 8 deep hurts a little but I'm happy with how
thing went regardless.
Thats all,
gary"
*As mentioned, Jeff flew home to try and win the OCUP overall, as he was
tied with one other racer. Jeff was leading the series due to his wins and
amazing consistency, but had missed the previous race due to school
obligations so received no points for that race. He managed to have this
last race work into his schedule. I'll let him take it from here…*
"Well... this was the determining race. Scott Lundy and I were tied for
first entering the OCup mtb Finals on Sunday, so the winner between us took
all. But... unfortunately... I flatted. At the top of the last climb of the
3rd lap, I looked down, and to my horror, my rear tire was going flat.
Up to this point I'd been riding with my rival, Scott, and we were 2nd and
3rd (the leader was some Jet Fuel roadie, apparently a Senior 1??).
Anyways, so I stopped, threw in a new tube and yanked out the one-inch-long
antique square headed nail embedded in my tire (pocketed it for evidence),
had some issues with my pump, then got on my way again after about 10
minutes (I think I'll look into CO2 cartridges for next year). By that point
most of my field had past and Scott was long gone. So, rather discouraged, I
cruised through the 4th lap and ended up 24th out of 33 entrants.
But... on the plus side, I did end up 2nd in the Ontario Cup Final Overall
standings for the season. So, I'm happy with that. Just slightly
disappointed that my chance at 1st was taken away by a stray ancient
artifact on the course. Ah well... next year ;o)"
*A shame for Jeff, but his season was an absolute success. His gains in
ability and strength are clearly documented since he joined us just 2 years
ago. For next year? Just 4 words to leave you with - Watch out pro
class. Jeffy's
comin'.*
*Next week - Provincial TT's. *
*Chris. *

Last year the Saturday Group that leaves from Walkers Line and Dundas
started a ride from Glenn Williams (Just outside of Georgetown). We rode
the rolling hills of the Caledon area going through the spectacular devil's
pulpit the forks of the credit and the Cheltenham Badlands. Everyone really
seemed to enjoy the ride. A group of us will be doing the ride again on the
24th of September. This will be the same intensity and duration as is normal
for the Saturday group. At the end of the ride we will stop in at the
Copper Kettle Pub in Glenn Williams for some food and merriment. The ride
will start at 9:30 (to allow time for people to drive the extra distance; it
takes about 35mins from Walkers and Dundas). Here is a link to the map;
