GROUP RIDES:
Our club hold group rides on Tuesday and Thursday evenings PLUS saturdays
and sundays.
A big thank you to Tom and Bernard for quarterbacking the ride this last
Sunday in Oakville North - and ensuring everyone had a great experience.
This coming weekend promises to be great (especially Sunday) as the
weatherman is calling for 20+ deg weather!
Here is a write up of last Sunday's group ride from Oakville, composed by
one of the group leaders Tom Dutton.
------------------------
Here is a brief run down on the easy paced ride we did on Sunday morning.
A good group of people arrived well before 10 am and we got to know each
other before starting out. This included a number of new members that were
getting out for their first ride with the OCC. Just before we left, Craig
and Cam showed up with their sons, Drew and Hunter so it was nice to have
a couple of energetic young pairs of legs riding with us.
We left and headed out into a fairly stiff headwind that was blowing from
the northwest. The group stuck together as we faced this all the way out
the lower base line and it became very strong as we headed up the Bell
School Line from # 2 side road. This wind finally really split the group
into two groups, a faster group that carried on up to Derry road and a
slower group that split off and headed back along Britannia. The groups
held together well and both groups finished as a group. With the tailwinds
on the way back, we picked up our pace.
I rode back with the slower group as they were not sure of the route.
Bernard really helped out with looking after people too, as we wanted the
new folks to have a positive experience. We finished at about quarter to
12, so I guess we held a pace of about 24-25 km/hour, although my computer
shut down at the start of the ride, so I was a bit in the dark on this one.
All in all, we had a great ride, everyone seemed pleased and the bright
sunshine was a welcome relief from the last few weekends.
Ciao, and keep 'em spinning!
Tom
