Oakville Cycling Club
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
April 2005
I hope some of you had a chance to get out on the roads and trails this past
weekend. The weather was fantastic. Many of you have started your competitive
season.
Please take a minute to read this short e-bulletin
**Racing**
The racing season is upon us and I am sure everybody is raring to go
after watching the Tour of Flanders and Paris Roubaix on OLN. Our first
Race is at Zimmerman on April 23rd under Pursuit rules. If you are a
slower rider who still likes to race this handicap format gives you the
chance to win. We still need volunteers for all our races although we
do have the minimum necessary for the Zimmerman race. Please let me
know if you can volunteer to be an official at one of our other races.
Don't forget our first time trial on May 4th; that series lasts until
September. Have a wonderful racing season!" –
Terry Rooney

**Mountain Bike**
Once again we will have regular MTB club rides. Please visit the website for up
to date ride information.

**Clothing**
NEW club clothing is in. Thanks to Francois Faust who worked with Louis Garneau
up until now getting everything done on time, and to Omar Arango who is taking
over the Clothing department.
Omar has posted a one-of-a-kind clothing viewing and ordering page.
We did not order that much this year, so the jerseys will go FAST. If you have
just joined, or are a returning member, please order soon as we will not be
ordering any more this year.
If you would like to see what the jerseys look like and how you can get one (or
more), please visit:

**Group Rides**
This year we have group rides that take place on no fewer than 4 days!!
Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
This coming Sunday (April 17th), we will be having our first EASY PACED ride.
If you have just joined the club, or are looking for an opportunity to get out
with a group that will not leave you behind, come out and give it a try.
Distances at the beginning of the season shouldn't be too long. We will be
leaving at 10am from Neyagawa and Dundas in north Oakville. Please be there
about 9:45am. We will be back to the start no later than 12:00noon.
If you live in the West End (burlington, Hamilton, etc.) you may want to try the
Sunday ride group that leaves from Walkers and Dundas in North Burlington.
If you are new to group rides, I would encourage you to try out the Sunday Group
in oakville and the one in Burlington - and see which one works best for you.

** Membership**
This year, our membership renewals have been going extremely well. The good
riding weather has only started, but (judging by the sheer numbers of renewals),
this is going to be our best year ever. There are also many new members to our
club. Those of you who have joined - welcome. If you are new to the club, you
will notice that this message has come to you via yahoogroups. This e-mail list
service makes it easy for us to stay in touch with you. Your e-mails are never
made public. You will not receive attachments via club e-mails, just news
regarding cycling and the Club.
Any official announcements regarding club rides, races, etc, will be made
available via the yahoogroups e-mail service and our club web site. If you
receive any e-mail from anyone stating that they are from the Oakville Cycling
Club -and you have concerns or questions regarding authenticity, please contact

joe.marangi@... or call me at 905-339-0630

person responsible for that aspect of club activities.
**PLEASE REMEMBER**
In order to take part in ANY club events (group ride, TT, Road race, MTB Ride),
you must be paid up for 2005. The reason we must make a big deal about this is
due to insurance reasons.
If you have not joined yet, please take a moment to visit:
http://www.oakvillecc.com/jointoday.shtml
(Don’t forget to fill out and return ALL 3 forms with appropriate payment)
If you would like to take part in the Road Race on the 23rd, or the first TT on
the 4th you may give your forms to the officials on duty for that day
** Season Kick off on the 23rd**.
We do not have that many indoor meeting – as we like to get together on the
roads and trails. However, this is THE meeting to attend.
The meeting on Saturday Night April 23rd starting at 7pm will have our very own
Greg and Anilee Andre-Barrett giving a slideshow of their recent cycling trip to
Spain.
The meeting is at the King’s Arms in Downtown Oakville. We have the upstairs
room from 6pm to 10pm. The formal part of the meeting should run from 7pm to
about 8:30. If you would like to drop in earlier and have a bit to eat, their
menu is quite good, and their Beer/Wine selection is great.
After the slide show we will go over some of our club events scheduled for this
year and what to expect. It will also give you a chance to meet other club
members and section chairs.
