Hello Everyone:
Please take a moment to read this important message from one of our own members
- Terry Rooney. He is your Road Racing Chair for this year, with information
many of you will find very useful.

------------------------------
My name is Terry Rooney. I have been a member of Oakville Cycling Club for three
years and I am trying to survive Colon Cancer. I was lucky that my cancer was
discovered because symptoms appeared after a case of food poisoning on an
overseas trip. For most people the symptoms do not appear until the cancer is
advanced; often fatally so. Even then it took over a year before my cancer was
diagnosed correctly because of the lack of generally available screening tests
of the right kind.
The Colorectal Cancer Screening Initiative Foundation is dedicated to the
objective of providing all of us with the best possible screening programme to
make sure that people do not die unnecessarily. My family and I have decided to
help in this cause because of my experience.
On Saturday April 30th at 7PM my daughter, Catherine, a talented classical
singer, is performing at the Walton United Church at 2489 Lakeshore Rd. West.
She has already begun a career in Opera and has received encouragement from
internationally recognised singers who reviewed her first audition CD recording.
She will be accompanied by Gergely Szokolay of the Royal Conservatory of Music,
who also performs frequently as a solo artist in concert halls across Canada.
Tickets cost $15 (seniors $10). Please come along and enjoy the music while
contributing to a cause that will save lives. Advance tickets can be ordered by
phone (905) 465 3890 and you can pay with VISA/Mastercard; cash only at the
door.
Here are some facts that should interest you:
Colon Cancer is the second deadliest form of cancer in Canada, second only to
lung cancer. It is the cancer you are most likely to get if you do not smoke.
Colon Cancer is not a disease of old men; each year it kills more men and women
(8200) than breast cancer kills women (5300) or prostate cancer kills men
(4200).
We look forward to your support and your attendance to this artistic and
fundraising event in Oakville.
