Oakville CC Downtown Classic 2005
The Oakville Cycling Club (OCC) is proposing to host an Ontario Cycling
Association sanctioned citizen’s criterium event this July 17. The event would
take place in downtown Oakville on a Sunday morning and early afternoon, and
would consist of 3 races: novice, intermediate, and senior. On Saturday January
29th at the OCC Annual General Meeting, the proposed event was presented for
discussion. The initial response was positive, but concerns were raised
regarding the level of active participation that could be expected from the OCC
membership; and as well the identification of adequate sponsorship to ensure the
event’s financial viability. This note to the OCC membership is intended to
inform the general membership of the proposed event, and as well to survey the
interest and commitment of club members to participate in the successful hosting
of the event. We are asking therefore that you as an OCC member reply to this
email by the end of day Thursday February 3 by answering the
following 4 questions: (responses should be send to
sbnickorick@...):
1) Would you be in favor of the OCC hosting the event, assuming that the
event will not impose any financial burden upon the club?
2) Would you be committed to performing some volunteer activities in the
months and weeks leading up the event?
3) Can you commit now to perform some volunteer activities on the day of
the event? (Sunday, July 17, 2005; sometime between 7am and 2 pm)
4) Can you commit now to assuming a leadership role from among the
following list of activities?
- Volunteer Recruitment and Coordination
- Sponsorship (pursuing for race money, services, prizes)
- Finance (maintaining race budget)
- Course Setup/Operational/Removal (in coordination with the Town of
Oakville ensure course surface is race worthy; barriers and straw bales are
appropriately installed, course is swept)
- Promotion/Communication/Marketing (promote awareness of event)
- Emergency Health & Safety (ensure proper safety facilities in place)
- Marshal corners/aid in crowd control
- Drive a pace vehicle
- Provide race commentary during event at start/finish area
We will be holding our second OCC Race Committee meeting Monday February at 7pm.
We are presently intending to meet in the upper room at the King’s Arms at 323
Church Street in Oakville; if this location changes we will send out an email.
Please mark this in your calendar and plan to come have a bite and participate
in the planning of this OCC event.
Thanks,
Brad Nickorick
