Seven riders showed up for today's recreational ride - all hoping, in vain, that
the Weather Network's forecast of imminent thunderstorms would be incorrect.
The run was lead by Dave Harris, who was joined by Carole, Sean and Allyson,
Catherine, Adam, and Phil (from Milton). However, for reasons such as family
commitments and concerns over the weather, we had an attrition rate greater than
Saturday's Tour de France stage, with just Carole and Dave completing the
official course.
The route took us up Sixth Line to Glen Williams, over to Terra Cotta, and back
down Winston Churchill, Sixth, Fifth, and Fourth Lines to complete 85 km in all.
Riding time was 3 hours and 10 mins, for an average of 26.9 km/hr.
In Glen Williams, the Bakery had agreed to open early for us, and having already
traversed one rain shower, the coffee and freshly baked cinnamon brioches were
much appreciated.
At that point, it would have been wise to retrace our steps, but three of us
continued on to Terra Cotta where the skies finally opened, and it was deemed
advisable to shelter from the downpour for about forty minutes. It was thus
somewhat frustrating to find, on our return to Oakville, that the roads were
dry, and no rain had yet fallen!
See you next Sunday.
Dave Harris
