Hey sports fans...
This week the racing schedule had an MTB O-Cup on the schedule.
Both Jeff & John made the trip to the Ottawa region for the weekend.
Here's Jeff's summary:
"It was a good weekend for Ocup#4 at Calabogie. The course was
insanely technical with tons of slick, jagged rocks and plenty of
roots. There was also a fair bit of climbing and high speed loose
rock descents.
Unfortunately Saturday's XC race did not go so well for me, as I
pinch flated at the beginning of my second lap. I didn't have a
spare tube or pump with me, so I had to drop out of the race since
outside help is illegal. So that was a bummer, especially since I
was in third place when it happened. Next year I think I'll run
tubeless tires on this course, since the technical sections call for
a lower tire pressure, but the fast bumpy descents are notorious for
causing pinch flats. Out of 18 riders in my category, only 11
finished. Most DNF's were due to flats.
On Sunday I entered the Hill Climb race which was a 2.1km, 760
vertical foot climb up the ski hill. Out of 9 men I finished first,
winning the cash prize of $45 which convieniently covered my race
entry fee for both days. So I did manage to come home with a gold
medal after all..."
Sweet huh? Without looking at everyone's results, I beleive it's the
teams first provincial level win this year. Thanks Jeff, hopefully
this will open the flood gates for the rest of us.
FYI, checking his lap times, he would have been very competitive
within the Pro Elite ranks.
It appears John suffered a similar fate to Jeff in his race on
Saturday and DNF'd too.
A good portion of the road team was able to enjoy the competitive and
fun Andrews Scenic Acres OCC race. Thanks to those who volunteered.
Chris.
