Greg is Raising Funds and Awareness for Diabetes by racing solo at   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #731 of 1656 |

My special thanks to those of you that have already given me your pledge. Thanks to you I have raised about $1,000 of my $1,500 commitment. But I have only two months left to raise the rest so I need everyone's help. There is now a Team Diabetes easy to use on-line pledge website (see below for details).

There are over 19 million cases of Diabetes in North America and over 2 million in Canada. More than 16.5 million Canadians - half the population - are considered at risk. One in three children born in 2000 will develop the illness. The harsh reality is that diabetes leads to a plethora of conditions including heart disease, kidney failure, blindness, chronic open wounds and amputation.  In Canada it costs us about $9 billion annually, and it is our leading cause of death by disease.

I have found a way to combine my passion for mountain bike racing and my desire to help those with Diabetes, including several friends and work colleagues. I have made a commitment to raise $1,500 and awareness for the Canadian Diabetes Association by racing in the solo category at the "Summer Solstice" 24 Hour mountain bike race at Albion Hills Conservation Area on June 19-20.  These events are about pushing one's physical and mental limits to complete as many laps and kilometres as possible in 24 hours. Those living with Diabetes are also confronted with limitations and challenges but they occur every day of their lives.

You can make your tax-deductible pledge to Team Diabetes by credit card on-line via

www.diabetes.ca

(select Donations – Team Diabetes – Pledge)

or directly at

https://cornerstonewebmedia.com/CDA-Donations/frmDefault.aspx?gt=teamdiabetes

and then searching on Year = 2004, Event=Mountain Bike Races 2004, First Name=Greg, Last Name=Andre-Barrett. Or just mail a cheque made out to "Canadian Diabetes Association" to “Greg Andre-Barrett, 250 Pinehurst Drive, Oakville, ON  L6J 4X3”.

The millions with Diabetes thank you for your support.

Greg

ps. At this event I will be racing for both Team Diabetes and our own Cyclepath Oakville Racing team. In 24 hours you have time to wear several jerseys {;->
