FW: Bikes Without Borders - Bike for Africa - 1st Annual Virgin Mobi   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #1415 of 1646 |
Please read the attached press release on this exciting event. Following are a couple of excerpts.

On May 30, Virgin Mobile and Bikes Without Borders host Bike for Africa, a fun and family-friendly event on Toronto Islands with the goal of raising $100,000 for the Pedal Powered Hope project in Malawi.  By providing 400 new bikes and 100 bicycles ambulances to community care workers in rural districts, 15,000 more people will get the life-saving medication and support services they need.

To celebrate the impact of pedal power, Bike for Africa takes you on a walking or biking journey, starting at a ‘clinic’ on Ward’s Island at 1 pm, and ending at a ‘village’ at Hanlan’s Point at 3 pm , for a BBQ picnic with exciting Toronto bands The WitHouts, Mr. Something Something, and Samba Squad.

Regards...Greg.

Subject: Bikes Without Borders - Bike for Africa

Hi There:
My name is Caroline Bracht.  I am with a local organization called Bikes Without Borders.  Our current project, Pedal-Powered Hope, will supply community HIV/AIDS workers with new bikes and bicycle ambulances to assist in their life-saving work.
To raise funds for the project, we are putting on the 1st Annual Virgin Mobile Bike for Africa on Toronto Islands on May 30. The event will feature a 2-hour walk or bike, followed by a BBQ picnic at our 'village' at Hanlan's Point and an afternoon with Toronto's hottest local bands. Virgin mobile will be doing extensive promotion for the event, and we are expecting upwards of 1,000 participants.
We are currently in the stage of promotion and plan on stopping by to drop off some post cards and posters.  If you do not have anywhere for our poster please contact me at carolinebracht@...   so we will not make the trip down.  Also, if you have a listserve/contact list can you please forward the attached press release in order to spread the word about this event.

Finally, you can suggest to others that there is a possibility to sign up as a group (up to 10) which can save individuals some of the registration fees and make it a group activitity.

Thank you for your time,

Yours,
Caroline
