"The Mountain Bike Chair is responsible for mountain bike club rides planning, coordination and communication. This position can be shared by two people. The Mtb Chair will: Plan the club rides with input from club members; Recruit and schedule volunteer ride leaders; Communicate rides to club members, including the season plan, additions, and changes. Communication will be done using email and the club website. Updates to the club website can be done easily by the Chair (training provided) or by sending these to the club web master."
"Mountain Bike ride leaders are responsible for leading club rides on dates that they have arranged to previously with the Mountain Bike Chair. If they are unable to lead a ride they will inform the Mountain Bike Chair and ideally recruit a substitute leader from the list of volunteer ride leaders. The ride leader should be at least an intermediate level rider. The ride leader should try to ensure that rides are fun, everyone rides together (surging ahead and doubling back is ok), and everyone rides safely and within their limits. The ride leader should also explain and encourage riders to follow the International Mountain Bike Association's (IMBA) "Rules of the Trail"*, which promote responsible and courteous conduct on shared-use trails."
*IMBA's "Rules of the Trail" are: 1. Ride On Open/Public Trails Only; 2. Leave No Trace; 3. Control Your Bicycle; 4. Yield to Others; 5. Never Scare Animals; and 6. Plan Ahead. For details and to join see: http://www.imba.com/about/trail_rules.html.

It’s Party time!
It’s time again for our annual social evening and general meeting on Saturday, January 31 from 6.30 to 9 pm at the Kings Arms, 323 Church Street, Oakville in the upstairs room. The pub has a good menu, so I am sure there is something for everyone.
This is an opportunity for us all to get together and see each other off the bikes. It’s a time to brag a little and laugh a lot. It’s a time to have some good food and a beverage or two. It is also a time to celebrate those members whose performances have been truly outstanding in the past year; to find out what happened in 2008 and what the plans are for 2009.
In addition to giving out awards we will also elect the OCC executive for 2009. Being on the executive is a tremendous opportunity for you to help set direction for the club and exercise your leadership muscles. A strong executive makes for a strong club.
The executive consists of the following positions:
- President
- Treasurer
- Secretary
- Clothing Coordinator
- Membership Registrar
- Recreational and Touring Events Coordinator*
- Road and Time Trial Coordinator*
- Mountain Bike Coordinator*
· Webmaster
- Public Relations Coordinator
The asterisks (*) indicates that we do not yet have a candidate for position. If you would like to nominate someone for any position, or are interested yourself in a role on the executive, could you please let me know by email.
We would like to have some idea as to how many are attending (and to make sure the bar doesn’t run out of beer), could you RSVP by Saturday, January 24.
See you all there.
