Racing has been an integral part of the OCC since its inception way back before the days of horse drawn chariots. It was racing, specifically time trials (TTs), that the club founders were looking to promote when the club was founded in 1983 if my memory does me justice. Times have changed, and people's interests have changed.
We need to see if we will continue to host TTs and Road Races in the 2009 season.
Here is a summary of the 2008 TT and Road Race events:
- We had planned 12 events, but it appears that we only had 6 events.
- The others being canceled due to weather (it was a very wet year!)
- Attendance at the races and TTs we held last year was varied:
- for TTs, we had turn outs of 8, 14, 3, 7 and 6 people
- for the Road Race, we had 5 people
- We did not have a dedicated Road Race chair so the events did not have as much focus as they could have
- It was challenging to get volunteers to come forward for the races
- attract more participants and
- attract most volunteers.
The racing schedule may not be in effect for 2009 if we cannot address those two points.
Please be prepared to speak to at the Annual General Meeting on Jan 31st or send your ideas and thoughts to me.
Many thanks,
