As you age (we all do), your body is not as good at storing liquids, yet it is more effective in flushing it out, so your problem is common.
Be sure to drink a bottle of a sports drink ever hour
Drink even when u r not thirsty as the 'thirst mechanism' also gets out of whack as we age
e-Load is 'better' in my opinion than gatorade - but I usually use Gatorade as I don't work nearly as hard as you and Bob ;)
Stay away from caffeine. As a diuretic, it can cause the exact symptoms you mention
There is a 'pill' you can take as well that will help your body retain water. I can't recall what it is at this time and I can't find it in my books - I will send it over to you when I find out. I have not used, but it has been tested to work...
It was great riding with you as well Steve!
Good luck in your races
next year I will be in decent shape and be able to keep up to you fast guys!
Take care
Rob.

Steve,Having experienced this in racing (and long training), I switched my liquid to ELoad (designed by Dr. Stoddard to help distance athletes with long events). It has some carbohydrates in it, but it is much higher in replacing a variety of electrolytes. Furthermore, you can also purchase additional ECaps, which are electrolytes in capsul form. These you can add to the drink (rather than simply making the drink stronger with more of the powder), and this increases the amount of electrolytes if you are a heavy perspirer or it is an extremely hot day.Check out www.eload.net.This has been quite effective in dealing with my cramping problems in doing Ironman (by the way, I just got back from watching Ironman Wisconsin this weekend in Madison, but I was primarily there to sign up for next year).BobRobert L. Subject: **OCC** Salt depletion question
Anyone else out there having salt depletion symptoms (leg cramps, nausea, dizziness, etc)? How did you solve them (salt tablets, pretzels, etc)?
Please let me know what works best as these symptoms are really affecting my long work outs.
BTW: great season guys, had a lot of fun on the Saturday rides, chasing everyone on the hills and hammering my legs into paste. See you all next season.
Regards,
Steve
