Subject: MTB Race Report - Cyclepath Oakville Race Team: Uxbridge Icebreaker

Cyclepath Oakville Race Team started the MTB race calender with a bang at
the 15th Annual Uxbridge Icebreaker. The day started below zero but soon
warmed up to over 10c making for a very challenge race course. There was a
mix of very slippery ice, mushy snow, 6" deep mud and gritty dirt road
climbs. There were multiple pileups in the icy sections and one poor racer
was taken to the hospital by ambulance with a broken leg (he won his
category though!). For the first race of the season I was happy to only do
the short 25km course. With all the mud and ice I ended the race with only
about 4 gears. Erin and Craig both braved the long 50km course. The very
gritty mud wore out both Erin and Greg's disc brake pads by the end of the
race and we are still trying to get some of the mud out of our eyes ......
Results:
Erin won the Women's 20-29 for the long course and was first overall for the
long course women. Craig finished a strong 6th of 22 in the competitive
Men's 30-39 long course. I won the Men's 30-39 for the short course of 42
and was first overall for the short course of 172.
