Those of you that are badmouthing Cedeno, can blame his 1+ 1/6 bad years
on Valentine and Howe. He performs best in right field, and Burnitz is a
superior outfielder who can play left or center better than Cedeno. Now
that Cedeno is back in right, he is hitting well over .300. Last year
"the genius" decided to switch Cedeno to left, instead of switching
Burnitz to left. This year Thowe Idiot put him in center. PUT CEDENO IN
RIGHT, LET HIM LEAD OFF, and you'll see a better player. When Jeromy
returns, put him in center.

Although getting rid of Phillips now will not turn the season around, it will keep him from doing more damage when trading season picks up.
There is something to look forward too - the Cyclones season starts soon.  But the outfield will look very different - the Parachute Jump is gone.

Let's me pose a hypothetical scenario here for a minute. Say that,
with Mo on the DL, Tony Clark produces at least adequately, and the Mets
start to win. What happens when Mo comes off the DL? Is there a point where
it's possible that Mo could lose his starting job because he got injured? If
so, how well will the Mets have to do over the next 2 weeks for that to
happen? 8-5? 6-6? 12-0?

The only way Mo can lose his starting job, at least as far as I can see is if the manager decides to not write his name on to the starting lineup.  Of course what must be considered is how much say does Art Howe really have.  Has Wilpon already told Howe that he must play Mo because of his HUGE contract

Here's another situation: Say that the Mets keep floundering, and
are completely out of it without any hope at the trading dealine. However,
between now and then, Almoar finally "comes around" and starts playing like
the player he used to be -- and Mike Piazza continues to hit .280. Does
Alomar still get traded? Does Piazza?

In my opinion there is no way Alomar finishes the season as a Met.  He is a free agent and I don't believe they will resign him.  There is absoulutly no good reason not to trade Alomar.  He still has value and it shouldnt be too difficult to find someone who can do at least as well has Roberto.
As far as Piazza goes, I dont think anyone on this team is untouchable except maybe Glavine.  I say, if someone really offers us some great young players, you have to consider moving Piazza.  I love Piazza but I'm not so sure he helps us as much as he hurts us.  He's been in decline for a while now, and it who knows how much farther he may decline.
I think the first move that has to happen though is giving Steve Phillips his pink slip and sending him on his way.  We can not have Phillips make any of these deals.  He has to be shown the door now!
