Title:   Tuesday Night Skate (Empire event)

Date:   Tuesday December 2, 2008
Time:   8:15 pm - 10:15 pm
Repeats:   This event repeats every week.
Next reminder:   The next reminder for this event will be sent in 22 hours, 4 minutes.
Location:   Blades Boards and Skates on West 72nd street
Notes:   The TNS is a weekly night skate around New York City. We do group skates all over Manhattan, in addition to Brooklyn, Queens and New Jersey. Distances range from 11 miles to....well, more (sometimes 20 miles or more).
We think you can guess what night of the week we meet. Our meeting time, though, is 8 p.m., sharp. We skate all year long as long as the streets are dry and the temperature is at the freezing point 32°F (0°C) or above.

The Tuesday Night Skate is New York City's oldest group skate, and one of the oldest in the USA. It was originally started back around 1990 by many of the skaters who also formed what would be known as the New York Road Skaters Association. The TNS was an official NYRSA function until late 1994, and then was independently organized until the end of 1998. As of January 1999, it has become an official Empire Skate Club event.

Hi

Get this! :

I am "computer challenged", but I thought I would give this a try. When I
called the Holiday Inn, I was told they were "sold out" for the group. So,
I booked a Holiday Inn Express - supposedly 5 miles away. Need to cancel
that reservation, now.

I only booked one night for now at the Sunspree Marina Cove. I will
probably go to my sister's after the luau. Do not know if they would honor
the same rate if I stayed a 2nd night....but I did not want to book the 2nd
night in case I wanted to cancel. Then, I would have to pay for that night.

So, I will get to stay with everyone on Friday night....

Holiday Inn Sunspree Marina Cove 6800 SUNSHINE SKYWAY LANE Postal Code 33711
Phone Hotel 727 867 1151
Current Price USD : $ 79.18 Average/Guest USD : $ 79.18 Total Price USD : $
79.18 (And that is the price including tax!)

The base rate is Price/Room/Night $ 68.85 Total Price $ 68.85Taxes & fees $
10.33 Total You Pay $ 79.18 Only
So, I feel "better" about not having a "roommate"....

Please have nice weather! ha ha

What a way to finish a great season of Week-end group skating!
An excellent weather, good rout, and a place that was really worth of
skating to!
Well, we did end up seating there for almost 2 hours, by the time our
food came, but with some corrections to Millie's pork it was really
good!
(Ask Millie...)LOL!
And we skated with a guest from Tokyo, Japan!
Any way, here is the link to some of the pictures, that I was able to
take:

The forecast says we have one more Sunday of mild weather, so let's go
say
good-bye to Shea and raise a glass to our new President (and maybe do a
little
skating along the way).

Meet at Columbus Circle at 11AM for a 20-mile (or so) skate, winding up
at:
http://newyork.citysearch.com/profile/11349776/astoria_ny/bohemian_hall_
beer_gar\
den.html

For those who oversleep, we should be getting to the Beer Garden at
around 2.

Bring helmets and wristguards, plus SHOES and ID to get into the Beer
Garden.

Dear skaters!
It is one thing to know "yeah, there is a Marathon that some one is
running now"...
It is totally different thing to be there and cheer the runners!
But if you' like to know what it is to be there and (yeah, OK, we did
not run it at all...LOL!)be cheered by people...you have to be there!
Some of us were there to skate in to NYC Marathon!
None was sorry, when we finished.
Some skated back to Brooklyn...

Here are some pictures, enjoy!

Dear skaters,
Yesterday was one more fabulous night of group skating streets of New
York! [:x]
To watch the Halloween parade is a treat on its own, to be in the parade
is an honor( at least for some people for sure!), but to SKATE through
the parade was the real life entertainment and really unique experience.

Here is the link to some of the pictures that I was able to take:

Dear skaters!
It is confirmed! It is official! Empire is skating the NYC
marathon!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please read below a copy of e-mail from Chris, the Speed Skater:
the marathon in on Sunday November 2nd, the start time is at 8.00am
at 86th st and 4th ave. If there's anyone who wants to meet us along
the route which might be easier for some of the skaters so they don't
have to go up to 86st, they can do so. We are going to stop at the
intersection of Atlantic Ave and Flatbush Ave between 8.15 to 8.25am,
then proceed along the marathon route which is a really fun skate.
There will be some traffic along the route, because we are starting
two hours before the runners start.
  - To get to 86st street: take the R train to 86th street and walk to
4th ave, look for Ben and Steven or any other skaters.
  - Anyone who wants to meet at Atlantic Ave,Brooklyn take the #
2,3,4,D,Q to Atlantic Ave Station in Brooklyn and wait at the
intersection of Flatbush and Atlantic Ave.
  - Attention skaters!!! You must be on time because the closer we are
to the start of the marathon the more troublesome its going to be to
skate the whole distance so we have to be far enough ahead of the
runners so we don't get bothered.
I hope we can get a good turnout the pace will be easy to moderate so
everyone should be able to hand on,the finish line is at 59th st and
Columbus circle.
P.S.: any questions, please call Steven at 917 208-3769.
See you guys on Sunday!

Weather was perfect, we had a nice turnout, beautiful skate through small sleepy
upstate towns colored with fall foliage, a tour of Sleepy Hollow Cemetery and a
visit to Washington Irving's grave-site, a great lunch and a relaxing ride back
to town on the Metro North.

Thanks to all that came out and made the trip so enjoyable!

Dear fellow skaters!
We just completed by far the most picturesque skate of the season!
We skated 26.9 miles in about 4 hours, including all the stops.
No one go lost and only 3 skaters left early.
No injuries, however, some one was trying to complain about some
blisters...any way, check the pictures! Who said it was easy?!!
Any way, thank you, Pete for excellent skate!

Join us as skate down the Headless Horseman on SUNDAY OCTOBER 26. We'll depart
fromColumbus Circle at 10am, heading north along the Hudson to the historic
town of Sleepy Hollow. This will be a ~30 mile skate, along Riverside,
Riverdale, Broadway, and Warburton, including short shoulderless stretches along
Broadway just north of Yonkers. We'll end our skate at the old cemetery used by
the earliest Dutch settlers, from 1640 on, where "Headless Horseman" author
Washington Irving reposes.

We'll then return to Manhattan on Metro
North, which runs just next to the Hudson. The hardier may wish to skate back
via White Plains and then head back down further inland. We will skate at
intermediate speed but for a ~30 mile distance and with relatively few stops.

Note that we will leave New York City limits, beyond which train stops
(Metro North) occur only once per ~ 1.4 miles. Most roads have nearby bus
routes--Westchester line ($1.40) 1 from Tarrytown to Dobbs Ferry; line 1T from
Dobbs Ferry to the 1 subway stops in Riverdale)--so you can turn back from most
points on route.

Skaters must be comfortable on hills and with traffic.
Helmets and wrist guards required, all other protective gear recommended.
Consumer opportunities are limited for long stretches of the route, so plan to
carry water with you. We will stop in Sleepy Hollow for food, and I suspect most
will return by train, so please bring money and shoes.

Pete Lux

Dear fellow skaters!
As of yesterday, if you log-in to "My yahoo-groups" or if you just
log-in to our message board, you will notice that we now have a
banner.
I took a liberty of using one of the group pictures from Saturday
morning skates at BAR 2008.
However, here is what I would like to ask all of you, who might be
interested:
I would like to announce a competition for the best group banner of,
let's say 2008 which means following:
those who would like to participate, will have to upload a picture or
an artwork (I am sure there are those among us, who can do it!) and
then, we will "cast" our votes for the best of them. The chosen
picture will be posted as our banner.
We can replace it as often as we'd like to do it...every month, year,
or never, it is up to all of you!
Well, let me know what do you think?
