Skaters!
We've been talking and talking about it...so, I am proposing a date - December
6.
Those of you, who already feel cold and can stand the heat, please keep on
reading:
Address: 1200 Gravesend Neck Road, Brooklyn NY 11229
Map: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=1200+Gravesend+Neck+Road+brooklyn+NY

Directions:
  - Q train to Neck Road stop - if you are coming from Manhattan, please take the
train(last 3 cars) to Sheepshead Bay station and transfer to Manhattan bound
train for (1) stop.
  - Walk West (street numbers descending) just past 13th Street on Gravesend Neck
Road.
Car: Prospect Expwy to Ocean Avenue. Left on Gravesend Neck Road.
Phone: 718-332-1676

Admission: $30 Children under 10: $15
Venik treatment / Platza: $30 and $45
1 hour massage: $70, 45 min - $55, 30min - $40
Facilities: big swimming pool, wet and dry Russian baths, sauna, outdoor seating
area, hockey-themed cafe, juice bar
This is the oldest Russian Bath in Brooklyn. One interesting feature of this
bath is its hockey theme. Framed jerseys of famous Russian players decorate the
walls and the cafe floor is tiled white with red and blue lines to resemble a
hockey rink. There are even goals on either side of the cafe.

We will spend at least 4 hours steaming, swimming, chilling, etc.
If anyone will have time to eat - we will do it in their cafe. I'd say it is at
least $30 to $50 for dinner, depending on your appetite.
Those who are going to come, please respond with confirmation.

You only need to bring your swimwear, beach sandals(if you prefer, otherwise you
can use house sandals). You will get unlimited towels and for $5 you can rent a
bath robe.

Hope to see you there!

FYI, JOIN IN THE FUN IN THE SUN!!!

A NUMBER OF NYC SKATERS HAVE ALREADY REGISTERED, AND LAST YEAR 36 OF
US PARTICIPATED. MANY, MANY MORE OF US HAVE GONE OVER THE YEARS.

THE GREAT ESSKATE, FUN SKATING + PARTYING WEEKEND FEB 19-21, 2010, a
social/recreational/fitness inline skate events and tours. Weekend
activities for nearly 400 attendees include POLICE-ESCORTED tours of
skater-friendly Miami Beach and the Miami area, a Friday night dinner
with entertainment, a Saturday afternoon picnic, free nightclub
admission and lots of other fun stuff continuing through Sunday
afternoon. Additional registration information is available at
<http://www.thegreatesskate.com/registration.php5>http://www.thegreatesskate.com\
/registration.php5

Now celebrating its TENTH YEAR, this 3-day event is open to skaters
of intermediate levels and above. Bicycle riders are also welcome to
participate.
Continued in 2010 will be skate tours designed as an introduction to
social urban group skating. We believe this will attract a larger
group of skaters who may have previously considered the Great EsSkate
too "hard core" or difficult for their skating abilities.

In 2008, the Miami Beach Police Athletic League (PAL) became our
primary charity; we have donated more than $21,000 to PAL and a total
of more than $96,000 to various charities since the founding of the event.

With Halloween on the way, let's kick it off by visiting the grave and hearing
the story of the author of the "Headless Horseman"!
This is a one-way +/-30 mile skate for strong skaters, basically up Broadway the
majority of the way!

Bring shoes, lunch/train money, and (of course) helmet and wrist guards. We have
no plans for a sag wagon this time, so pack light and be sure to bring some
water.

If you want to come by bicycle, you have to have a bike permit for the train.
You can get the lifetime $5 permit the same day or before by previously
downloading and filling out permit application at MTA bike web page
www.mta.nyc.ny.us. Permit application and $5 fee must be given to ticket or
conductor staff.

You are skating at your own risk, responsible for your safety, and agree not to
sue or hold the Empire Skate Club or any volunteers responsible for your
actions.

Meet at Columbus Circle at 10AM - we will leave at 10:15 sharp.

For full details, see the Event explanation page at www.empire skate.org

Helmet and wrist guards are required.

The weather report for Sunday is sunny and a high of 81 and that report is great
for a nice skate. Come on out and join us. Don't forget shoes for lunch and the
ferry!

The Skate: Bayonne Bridge Skate
The Date: Sunday, September 13, 2009
The Time 11:30 am Meet at the Jersey City PATH Station

The skate begins at the Exchange Place PATH stop in Jersey City, and we'll skate
through Liberty State Park, over the Bayonne Bridge, and wind up on the Staten
Island Ferry. At about the 3/4 mark, we'll stop in Staten Island for pizza at
Denino's and/or Italian ices at Ralph's. We will make a couple of deli stops
along the way for drinks and snacks.

We'll leave from Jersey City at 11:30.

The skate is about 22 miles, and we'll probably get to the ferry between 3 and
4.

Bring helmets, wrist guards, sunscreen, cash for refreshments, and shoes for the
PATH and ferry and Denino's. The PATH accepts cash ($1.75) and pay- per- ride
Metro Cards but not unlimited ride Metro Cards. The Staten Island Ferry is FREE!

This is a great opportunity for a close up view of Ellis Island and the Statute
of Liberty from "the Jersey side".

Skaters!
Please mark your calendar!
Right after the Bayonne Bridge Skate on September 13 and NYC skate marathon/100K
on September 26, we will skate around Rockaways on October 3 in slow, leisurely
manner we always do! This time I am proposing to skate this rout in the opposite
direction, going through Riis park beaches first and then round it up through
memorial bridges and to Cross Bay boulevard and to the Belt Parkway. We will
enjoy some good food thereafter on Sheepshead Bay.
Please check these pictures that I took during today's scouting of the rout:

If you and your family SKATE OR DO ANYTHING IN CENTRAL PARK,
including bike, play, visit, walk, picnic, go to free concerts,
plays, etcetera, PLEASE GIVE SOMETHING BACK BY MAKING A DONATION!
Central Park can use your help! So many trees were knocked down and
areas damaged by last week's thunderstorm that the Uptown part of the
Park looks like a lumbering area. Hills of felled trees and chipped
wood that have been gathered demonstrate the devastation. In the
northern end of Central Park, the SEVERE STORM OF AUG. 18, 2009,
BATTERED LANDSCAPES AND FELLED MORE THAN 250 TREES. For more
information surf to
<http://www.centralparknyc.org/>http://www.centralparknyc.org . See
below or go to site to make a donation.

[]

In times of need such as these, Central Park counts on the support of
friends like you. With clean-up costs estimated in the hundreds of
thousands of dollars, the Park really needs your help. With a
donation, you can help restore the Park and make it once again a safe
place for all to enjoy. Thank you!

If you'd like to send a check, please make it out to CPC Storm Damage
Fund, and mail it to us here:

Skaters,
We had by far one of the greatest skating week ends this year!
It did not rain, there was only wind, generated by skaters, sweeps did not loose
anyone and no one got hurt!

Below please find links to the pictures that I was able to recover from my
broken camera (it failed 45 minutes in to Sunday skate).
Enjoy!
Saturday ruffle and skates:

Sunday skate:

Thank you for coming out with us this year - without all of you, there would be
no skates and no fun!

Hope to see you all next year!

Regards,

Mike G
