Update on Bronx River Parkway Skate   Message List

It looks like it's gonna be a HOT one on Sunday, so here are a few hot weather
contingencies and pointers for the skate:

1. The skate is an 'out and back' skate, so anybody who chooses not to go the
full 11 miles 'out' can sit under a tree and pick up the group on the return
trip.
2. If everybody is too hot and tired when we get to White Plains, we can skip
the Kensico Dam portion of the skate, cutting out about 2 miles each way.
3. The parkway runs parallel to the Metro North Harlem line, so tired skaters
can take a train back to Bronxville (or back to the city, if you don't leave
belongings in the car) from a number of places along the route.
4. There are very few places where you can get water along the route. Please
plan to carry at least a quart of water.
5. We're only two weeks away from the summer solstice, so the sun is VERY
strong. You'll need sunscreen and head protection (preferably a helmet).

On the bright side (or is it the shady side), there are many trees along the
route, so there are opportunities to get out of the sun.

It should be a great skate, as long as we respect the weather.
See you Sunday!
