Long Island skating/biking tour this SATURDAY!   Message List

Skaters,

This weekend is Memorial Day. That means it is time for the annual Long
Island Skate to the Beach. Of course, it ends with a barbeque at Jack's house.

Here are the directions for meeting up...

IF YOU ARE TAKING THE LONG ISLAND RAILROAD FROM THE CITY... Make sure you
are at Penn Station by 9:45 AM. You need to catch the 10:00 AM train to
Babylon. Make sure you get off at the MASSAPEQUA train stop. Also, make sure
to
take your skates and bags off the train. The train should arrive in
Massapequa at about 11:05 AM. Walk to the NORTH side of the train station.
The
Chamber of Commerce is having a carnival on the south side of the train station
that weekend.

If you plan on leaving from Brooklyn, Make sure you are at the LIRR station
by 9:30. You will have to transfer in Jamaica to catch the Babylon line.
The train should arrive in Jamaica around 10:25 AM.

If you plan on riding a bicycle, then you will have to contact the Long
Island Railroad about their policy on transporting a bike on the train.

IF YOU PLAN TO DRIVE TO THE MASSAPEQUA TRAIN STOP... If you are coming from
the west, then you need to take the Cross Island Parkway SOUTH. Stay in the
left lane at the end of the parkway and take the SOUTHERN STATE PARKWAY going
EAST. Continue on the Southern State Parkway to EXIT 30, Broadway. You
have to turn left off the exit ramp to get to Broadway. Turn RIGHT on
Broadway.
Stay on Broadway for about two miles. Enter the Long Island Railroad
parking lot on the NORTH side of the train station. This parking lot is
between
the CVS Pharmacy and the LIRR train tressel. Just park here and get ready to
meet the crowd.

If you are coming EAST along Sunrise Highway... Take Sunrise Highway into
Massapequa. Turn RIGHT on Broadway. This will be the light just after the
Nissan dealership (on your left side) and the LIRR parking lot (on your right).
Make the first right after you pass under the train tressel. Meet up with
the group.

If you are coming WEST along Sunrise Highway... Take Sunrise Highway to
Broadway. This is the light AFTER Hicksville Road (Route 107). Turn Left on
Broadway. Make the next possible right after you pass under the train tressel.
Meet up with the group.

This tour will be LONG. You will travel approximately 25 miles. Therefore,
if you are skating, you MUST be a high- intermediate level skater or an
intermediate level biker. You MUST be comfortable skating or biking on the
streets. I have done my very best to come up with a low traffic route. We
will
cross Sunrise Highway, Merrick Road and Hicksville Road. We will skate and
bike around Massapequa, Massapequa Park, Wantagh, and Seaford. We will
continue down the Cedar Creek Park path to Jones Beach. We will hang out at
the
beach for a few hours, then head back to my house for a barbeque.

If you plan on biking, you are responsible for locking up your bike. I do
have a chain, but I do not have an extra lock. If you skate, then you can
dump your stuff in my car. I will drive my car to the beach where you can get
out of your skates.

I will give you a further update later this week. If you are interested in
showing up, please feel free to call me at (516) 220-7787 or email me at
_Sk8rJack@..._ (mailto:Sk8rJack@...) . And... YES, please feel free to
invite anyone to show up for the tour or the barbeque.

Jack
