It is a nice easy skate through the wineries on the North Fork of Long
Island. There will be wine sampling, live music, farm stands and more
importantly good friends.
Bikes and other forms of transportations are welcome.

The Grape Eskate 2007
Â
Hi
all the Grape Eskate is on for Saturday, September 15, 2007. Approximately 14
miles of skating through the
picturesque North Fork of Long Island.Â
We will be visiting a couple of vineyards. There are usually places on
the grass to rest and relax while you Â
enjoy the tranquility and atmosphere of the vineyards. Most vineyard do offer
free sampling or for a
nominal fee.

dirty details:
Â
Skate
Ability:Â Be comfortable skating 7-8
miles at a clip. We will be sharing the
road with local traffic.
Â
Bikers
are welcome as always. Please contact LIRR about bringing bikes on the
train. They are allowed. I don’t know the specific rules. You should be
able to get a bike pass at the
station prior to the train.
Â
The
Train: Meet at Penn Station at 9:00 AM,
Take the 9:16 AM Train to Ronkonkoma/Greenport. You will have transfer trains
at Ronkonkoma
to the Greenport line. The return train
will leave Greenport @ 6:14 PM and
arrive at Penn Station at 8:58 PM. Fare is 14.50. Remember to bring food &
drink. It is a long train ride.

Flatbush: Train leaves at 9:12 and
transfer at Jamaica.
Â
Long
Island Expressway to exit 73, CR-58, Old Country Road.
Take 58 through Riverhead through the traffic circle. CR-58 will merge with
Route 25. Follow Route 25 to Greenport, once in town
follow signs to Shelter Island Ferry.Â
Railroad station is next to the Ferry.
