If you're looking for a great skate vacation with a good cause, consider North
Carolina in September. It's a beautiful state and a great time of year to enjoy
the country roads that meander along our rolling hills.
Please join the Roadskater.net team and SKATE OR BIKE the 20 mile Taste of the
Tour on Saturday and chill the rest of the weekend with skaters and the cyclists
who love them, or go for up to 45 miles each day (options for greater distances
on Saturday), for 90+ miles of Tar Heel fun.
The event is the glorious Tour to Tanglewood (http://ncc.nmss.org), and it is
the 8th time they've welcomed the Roadskaters. Last year we had 30 skaters and
10 cyclists. We're hoping you'll join us so we can break that record this year.
We have 30 members so far (see below). See photos at http://roadskater.net and
find more info at http://tourtotanglewood.com, part of http://rsn2.com.

Because of inexpensive accomodations and virtually all food and transportation
(and free camping or free shuttle to hotel), the Tour to Tanglewood weekend
costs less than many other events in more expensive towns where meals are not
included. So please don't let the fact that we're registering for $30 and
raising $200 stop you. Hotels run $35 and up for Friday and under $69 Saturday
(not including tax). We'll even try to floorspace you (or better) if you need
it. Our team will help anyone who tries and just can't raise the $200, and we
have generous team mates who'll help you try to get to your goals. Last year
dozens of team members earned a Tour jersey by sharing donations and bonus
points to help each other.
So fly into GSO airport Friday afternoon or evening for easy connections, grab
an inexpensive car (I believe Alamo is closest to the terminal, an easy walk),
stay less than half a mile from the start at our inexpensive hotels, or camp
under the stars Saturday night. Friday night's team meal is optional, but at a
moderately-priced restaurant (many options under $15), and almost all food you
could possibly need is available until the end of the tour.
For speedsters, you won't get any better prep for the 25th Annual Athens to
Atlanta (register at http://a2a.net), which comes three weeks later. The Tour to
Tanglewood is the perfect place to get a last long hard skate in if you want to,
or to grab a pack at your pace and enjoy the fellowship of kindred souls on
wheels.
This year, the tour offers:
* 1300 cyclists treating you like the skating god you are;
* Awesome rest stops with gatorade, fruit, homebaked goodies and more;
* Free breakfast snacks, hot lunch and hot dinner Saturday, plus light breakfast
and full lunch Sunday;
* Free beer and cokes all afternoon saturday;
* Inexpensive massage both days (five dollars last year);
* Course monitored by law enforcement, GoldWing motorcycle club, HAM radio
volunteers, EMT/fire squad, Tour volunteers;
* SAG wagons ping between rest stops so you can ride to the next stop and
continue if you like;
* No clock, no placement, no pressure, just skating or cycling for a great
cause;
* Nobody cares how many miles you do. Just join us for fun and to raise money
for those who help those with multiple sclerosis;

(under $69);
