Hi everyone:
This is really a great skate. I hope you can come.
BROOKLYN GREENWAY/ROCKAWAY SKATE + BBQ & POOL PARTY -
**Sunday August 13th
Skate along the shoreline through Sheepshead Bay, Manhattan Beach, Plumb
Beach and Rockaway/Breezy Point. This is a mostly flat skate on the bike
path, although there are some streets and bridges involved. It is an
intermediate 17+ mile skate. Bring a bathing suit and towel as it will end
at Paul Rankin's house for a BBQ at his pool. Take the "Q" train to
Brooklyn and get off at the SHEEPSHEAD BAY station. The ride takes about
almost an hour from midtown Manhattan. Go toward the FRONT of the train to
the VOORHIES AVE / 14TH ST. exit. Go down the stairs to the street.
Paul will meet you all there at 10:30am and we'll leave promptly at 11. -
Promptly at 11.
The first stop will be at Paul's house only a few minutes from the station
where you can drop off anything you don't want to carry. But do carry water
and sunscreen. If anyone wants to bring soda or beer or dessert it would be
appreciated.
Driving? There is very little parking as it is a public beach area. There
is a municipal parking lot by the train station but it fills up quickly and
there is very limited parking in the street. Call or e-mail me for driving
directions if you want to risk it.
Paul's cell phone number is 917-881-0266.
*****THIS IS AN OFFICIAL: EMPIRE SKATE CLUB EVENT - HELMETS AND WRISTS
GUARDS ARE REQUIRED AS MINIMUM PROTECTION. We will be skating near beaches
where there is some sand on the roadway and it can be slippery. If you are
not going to wear a helmet - please don't come. If you are
planning on being impaired or under the influence before or during the skate
- please don't come.
