The weather will be cool but comfortable, the pavement quite clear to skate.
Come out, come out!
----------
Friends,
For the past four years, I have skated in a very interesting event called
"Unsilent Night." This is part performance art, part concert, part parade,
and has been a lot of fun. The organizer is very supportive of having lots
of skaters participate, so I hope that many of you will find it a good
reason to skate in the winter chill and participate in a most festive
manifestation of holiday cheer.
The concept is hard to explain: participants bring their own boomboxes, and
the organizer supplies a cassette tape of music he's composed. All of the
participants start the tapes at the same time, and the music fills the air
for blocks. Since boomboxes are not precise instruments, the tapes fall out
of sync during the slow walk from Washington Square to Tompkins Square. The
piece is designed with this in mind, and the effect is strange and very
wonderful.
For the official announcement of this year's Unsilent Night, see:

This year's Unsilent Night will be held on Saturday, 18 December, beginning
at 6:45pm. Participants must e-mail the organizer to make sure he brings
enough tapes. The announcement above provides a link to his e-mail address.
If you do want to join, please drop me a line as well:jared@...
Pass this along to anybody you think might be interested in the event,
whether on skates or off.
Happy Holidays!
Jared.
(This is not an Empire event.)
