Pick-up Ultimate, Saturdays at 11:30AM on Roosevelt Island. On the grass soccer
field by the tram, which leaves from Second Avenue @ 59 Street. You can also
get to the Island by subway or bicycle.
June 17th ends the registration period for the Summer Season offered by UltimateRec.
We have space for a few more players and could fit another team if you think you can get a squad together.
If you have been on the fence about signing up head to www.ultimaterec.com and click on the Register link on the bottom to sign up as free agent, join an existing team, or register a new team today!
UltimateRec is excited to build upon the success of the spring season by offering a weekend league in Long Island City with more competition from more teams and at a lower price.
If
you haven't played with UltimateRec yet, its an experience that anyone with any skill level can appreciate. We have enjoyed the company of some of New York's top players but also introduced this great sport to several first time players.
As many of you know, I work with the parks department, and for a while now I've been trying to convince the 'higher ups' here the value of constructing a disc golf course in the city.
This impromptu 'campaingn' is rolling quite well on this end, but I need to demonstrate to borough commissioners that there is a legitimate interest in Disc Golf in this city.
Just to give you an idea of how pathetic new York is compared to other cities in the US, check this out:

With tournament season heating up and the combine over, we are pleased to announce the formation of the UltimateRec Open Division. We are looking for guys that want to play on a club team and travel to a few tournaments this year. We are also looking for a few more women for the mixed division.
Our commitment is to create more teams in NYC and this is a step in the right direction.
Here is how the open division will work:
Each player needs to sign up for the summer season by going to www.ultimaterec.com and clicking the "Register"
Tab. As you enter your contact information put "Open Division" in the comments section. You will then sign up for "NYC Ultimate" and leave yourself as a free agent. We will sort out the teams and post the game and practice schedule at the end of next week. Over the course of the season, we will sort out the travel team/teams. The cost is $70 but this pays for the field space for league play and practice, gets you a Jersey and we will use part of the funds for the club team. Please sign up no later than the 15th.
If you are already registered for the mixed division and would like to play in the open division, please shoot me an email.
Cheers,
Cullen
UltimateRec
P.S. As an ongoing reminded, we also offer soccer if anyone is interested.
how about convincing the parks depts for more designated ultimate
space? It's kind of a slap in the face when we struggle to find field
space on crappy fields, and you want to convince them for a disc golf
course?

I wanted to know if anyone will be in the park tomorrow. This is Mo from a long
time ago. My gf is learning and she would like to play, I want to play pick up
tomorrow as well. I will be out there tomorrow at 1pm at the latest to play some
ultimate I have a disc but its a whamo... also , on a side note, I've been out
at the dustbowl and either you guys break out earlier or don't show at the
dustbowl but I would like to play tomorrow and during the weekends again and I
know I am not the only one and I am not alone either
Respond ASAP so i don't look like an idiot again with my gf thinking there's
pickup and then having to explain my imaginary frisbee games. And supposed
friends to my lady okay

Mo
Please email me directly at j-philip@... if you want to play. I will send out a “game on” email if I get enough responses.

I hear rumors people will be playing disc in Central Park tomorrow.
Let's get a couple people to confirm about a game...
Heck, maybe we can play on the great meadow or grass across the street... it's a
holiday weekend.
FYI - In case anyone is wondering MUD killed pick-up.
The few players that could not commit and could not get on a MUD league team but
still wanted to play some half-way serious ultimate have been screwed.
I have gone over to the dustbowl on at least 5 separate occassions this summer
to try and play some pick-up ultimate and found myself sitting by myself.
I saw this coming and I tried to get on a MUD team, but got waitlisted
(rejected), because I did not get drafted.
Hopefully I will be able to play ultimate again, someday...
Our season just started but we are looking to add one more team and are half way to that goal. Our games are Saturday afternoons but we also offer pickup on Mondays as well as pickup after the games for people that can't commit to the league but still want to play.
Step three - Choose "NYC ULTIMATE" and join the team "11th Hour"
Step four - agree to the waiver
The rest is very simple. If you sign up for 11th hour you will get at least 10 games and the players on the winning team get their registrations waived for the fall to come back and defend their title. We are a wonderful community and invite all of you to sign up.

As you can see, today is the deadline for teams to sign up. That said, many of you are not currently on a club team or are on hiatus from one. This tournament is going to be something special. For the thousands of times we have played ultimate on turf, dirt, rocks, or weeds, we now have fields where you can lay out in safety. We are going to be the first people to use these fields and they are beautiful. If you have a team and haven't signed up, do it now. If you are interested in playing on a
free agent team, send me an email and we will try to find a spot for you.
2007 Metro Sectional Mixed 5th Place Finisher and frequent point of halcyon
nostalgia AMOB is reforming for ONE WEEKEND ONLY at the Holmes Levitational this
weekend in New York City.
We're looking to round out our roster with a few more women before the weekend.

UltimateRec is looking for our next league champion. Gather your friends and put a team together or sign up as a free agent.
As many of you know, we are a non-draft league that encourages you to form a team with your friends to take on other squads in league play. We run the league Saturday afternoons to allow the club players time to practice with their teams in the morning and we have far and away the nicest field available in New York City. Spring runner up Super Crazy Happy Fun Day and Summer Champions QueensWest await your challenge.
We play at Randall's Island on brand new, well kept grass fields. That's right,
no rocks, no turf, no fighting for space, just a regulation sized well manicured lawn for your Ultimate pleasure. Ultimate players are notorious for traveling to the outer reaches of the city for a good game but you should know that these fields are very easy to get via the bus, the footbridge at 103rd street or by car (plenty of free parking).
If you are interested in putting a team together, let me know the name of the team and what numbers you expect. We also welcome free agents and small groups.
In other news, we know that many of you are preparing for sectionals and beyond. We should have some openings at the field if you want to schedule Saturday or Sunday morning practices/scrimmages. Speaking of which, if you are busy with sectionals and want to join at a later date, let us know and we will find you a spot.
Feel free to respond with any questions to this email address. We will send a registration reminder on Tuesday.

Okay disc players, here is an opportunity for you practice your throws with a partner who will never let you down. Matisse is a Border Collie who is looking for a "temporary" (don't get any ideas) while his mom relocates into a dog friendly home. If you understand the value of fostering an animal, or want to try out the idea of having a dog if you are thinking of getting one for yourself, this is an opportunity for a win-win.
Matisse is hoping to find a place to stay near Prospect Park with someone who likes the idea of early morning workouts in the Park... or weekend afternoons with the moveable feast.
On Thursday, November 5th, I will be expounding about everything related to ultimate at Varsity Letters, a sports-oriented book reading series sponsored by Gelf magazine.
The other readings that night include excerpts from a book about Manny Ramirez and one about Woman's Wrestling. Ultimate fits in perfectly. Expect hilarity to ensue.
7:30pm at Jan Larsen Studio 63 Pearl Street (between Water and Front, right under Manhattan Bridge) DUMBO
The event is FREE. Beer can be purchased for your enjoyment. The after-party is around the corner. -- Tony
This Thursday I'll be positing absurd theories about ultimate frisbee at Gelf's monthly sports reading series Varsity Letters. The event is FREE. Joining me are writers with books about Manny Ramirez and Woman's Wrestling.
The time was moved up to 7pm in case there is a game 7 World Series to occur that day. Details on the reading are here:
