Wudi is one of the most competitive summer leagues in the country. It
takes place on beautifully maintained grass fields at Purchase
College, near White Plains, about 45 minutes north of the city.
We currently have spots open for women in the coed league, and the
open league is still open for men. If you think the league might be
too advanced for you (not likely if you're getting this email), we
also have a rec league that plays on thursdays at the same location.
Here are some common reasons people think they can't play wudi and a
debunking of those reasons:
1) I don't have a car, I won't be able to get there.
This is not a good reason not to sign up. There is a ride board where
people offer rides from many areas, and team mates are always willing
to make sure people make it up there. In the rare instances where you
can't find a ride, you can take metro north to a bus or get picked up
by an upstate league player at the train station. The main factor is
can you get off work early enough. If you're working uptown, if you
can get off around 5:15-30 you're fine. Midtown 5-5:15, and if you're
downtown you may need to be off a bit before 5.
2)I don't know anyone, how will I get on a team?
Our league uses a draft system. When you sign up, you will fill out
detailed information about your playing level and experience so the
captains can evenly balance the teams. Everyone accepted into the
league (solely based on available spots, not playing ability) will be
drafted onto a team.
