Summer League Update and Call for Captains   Message List

We have just gotten permit approval. Unlike last year - we could not lock up every consecutive Sunday. But we have enough to offer the 2007 Amir Lopatin Summer League and more dates will be added.

Thus with this email, I will convey the following elements:

1.    Dates

2.    Summer League Details

3.    Registration info

4.    Call for Captains

1. Dates

As it turns out, Central Park's East Meadow (aka Dust Bowl, at 99th Street and 5th Avenue) is no longer handled by the

sports division at Parks and Rec. but rather permits are issued by the

Special Events group. And thus can only issue/approved permits one month at

a time.

Thus, only the following Sunday dates are secured:

June 3 = 3p-6:30p – pick up, get to know each other

June 4 or 5th = Captain’s draft

June 10 = 3-6:30p

Jun 17 = 3-6:30p

With the following dates to be approved:

July 1 = 2:30-6:30p

July 29 = 2:30p - 6:30p

Aug 5 = 3-6:30p

Sept 2 = 3-6:30p

* Finals will be played mid-late August ( I will secure that date in the future)

Additional dates will be secured as each month (July and August) draws near

(if the space isn't used otherwise).

2. League Details

All games will be held in the "Dust Bowl" in Manhattan's Central Park (entrance at 99th street from 5th avenue).

·         The league is co-ed.

·         The league is for Adults only (you must be 18 years old as of June 3, 2007).

·         There will be 6 teams- with 3-4 Females and 15-17 Males per team. (This may seem like a lot – but believe me, you’ll be glad as numbers drastically dwindle as summer goes on). Thus there will be a registration cap

·         It is a 6 -1 league but captains can agree to play 5-2.

·         With the above dates, all teams play each other 2x. When we receive additional dates, we can increase the match ups to 3x.

·         Rules are based on the 11th Edition UPA rules. (Handbooks will be distributed)

·         The fee is $40 (up $3 vs. 2007). This covers permit, registration fees, team jersey, rules handbook and disc.

·         Two games to 11 will be played each Sunday.

·         We play in all weather.

·         Teams will be determined by a Captains' draft on May 28. Only Captains attend draft. After the draft, you will be notified of your team assignment by two emails - one from me and one from your Captain by June 1. After that, your Captains will be your main source of information.

·         There are no cores, no pre-draft and no team requests. Same as last year.

·         It is a fun yet competitive league and all are invited to join. It is okay if you do not expect to attend all games - just answer the registration question as accurately as you can.

3. Registration Details

·         I am currently developing the registration site. It should be live by Tuesday May 29 and you will have until Sunday June 3 midnight to sign up. You cannot register yet. I will send the link to the site when it’s ready by Tuesday May 29.

·         If you are receiving this email, you will receive the registration notice.

·         Payment is via credit card (Visa/MC) or via check as described in registration site.  Cash is accepted on June 10.

·         You must register to play. There will be no walk-ons and no one added after registration closes.

·         Should you register, but then are unable to play, a refund will be granted but with a $5 penalty (as site vendor still collects fee).

4. Call for Captains

·         We need either 1 Captain or 2 co-Captains per team. Last year Co’s worked well.

·         Important traits that a captain needs to have are (that works in this league):

1.    To know many of pick up players (big help in the draft)

2.    Is a communicator. You will be responsible for notifying your team for schedules, scores and information

3.    To understand and uphold the Spirit of the Game tenet

4.    To have Command of the rules

5.    Be available on Monday June 4 or Tuesday June 5 in evening for the draft (or at least 1 co-captain)

·         I suggest those interested in co-captaining pair up yourselves (versus me matching you up).

·         Please note there is no league if we can not have captains (I will not be drafting the teams). You can always delegate some of the weekly duties.

·         Please email with your interest in being a Captain/ Co-Captain. Email cax218@... by Tuesday May 29 noon.

I have tried to anticipate all your questions above. Email me with unique questions. I will not answer emails that can be answered by re-reading the above.

Summer is here! And it will be another Summer of great ultimate. I can't wait to see you on the field.

Catherine
