*** NYCPUL Playoffs Moved to Sun 9/3****

Melissa – Thank you for your all your help today.

And “Iron Mike,” thank you for your vote.

I am assuming that the other captains have not voted simply because they have not been online. However, instead of a vote at this point; I making the (difficult) decision to move the playoffs to next week (Labor Day Sunday).  I do recognize that the attendance may be quite different than this weekend. But safety has got to be the common denominator.

Just so you know, I spent 2 1/2hours trying to get alternate field space. I was even able to get both a Parks and Recreation AND a Central Park Conservancy representative to walk the fields with me this afternoon. We examined 6 fields from 86th and CPW to 102nd and East Drive. Only one field was acceptable in terms of safety and size. Another was perhaps safe but so small (with low hanging trees) that there was a distinct disadvantage. And how were we to fairly select who gets to play on which field?

All teams deserve to have the playoff opportunities as laid out on June 19.

It is with great regret I write this.

Please honor this email with a reply so I know you are in receipt (and please advise your teams).

Much thank you. Catherine

Subject: ***Important** NYCPUL Playoffs Update!!

Hey NYCPUL captains and players,

I'm writing this on behalf of Cathy, our great NYCPUL commissioner who's been running around like mad trying to resolve our field issue for tomorrow. Unfortunately, she was unable to secure any of the grassy North Meadow fields. They are all red-flagged due to the rain.... :(

The options that the Parks Department offered were 1) a small field just north of the Dustbowl and 2) a Norman's something other field near 86th and Central Park West. The first field is kinda crappy and would only fit one game. The second option can *almost* fit 2 fields, but the fields would be significantly smaller and there is one region that is very unsafe. I have heard from some people that is it much worse than the Dustbowl... A third option would be to split the fields and have one at the first location and the other at the second, but we didn't think that was a good idea.... And the last option is to postpone playoffs to next weekend which would suck since it's Labor Day weekend, but hopefully, most of you will be around...

So, we're asking the captains to take a vote. Please respond to the captains list!

And sorry for the last minute-ness of all this! The Parks Department seriously screwed up...

Please keep checking your email for updates from your captains or the yahoo groups.

-Melissa (Team Grey)

To NYCPUL Summer league Captains and registered players:

I have just been advised that we cannot play on the "Dust Bowl" (as Ellen Degeneris is setting up for a Monday concert).

I am working with Parks and Recreation to get alternate fields nearby.

Three important items:

1. We will be on one of two fields:

  1. The grassy soccer field directly west of the Dust Bowl (up over the hill and inside the paved loop)
  2. The grassy soccer field  more west on other side of North Meadow – inside paved loop from 100th St and Central Park West)

2. Tell players to bring turf shoes – not cleats (cleats are not allowed on grass). Use sneakers if needed.

3. Stay tuned tomorrow at 11am via email and phone.

There is a small outside chance this needs to be moved to Labor Day Sunday. This would bite but if Central Park Conservancy shuts field there is nothing we can do.

The actual field will be confirmed later this afternoon (email from Melissa), but prepare your teams. I will be online again tonight and send an update.

If you receive no other communication: Assume Games are on. Games are in Grass Field west of Dust Bowl just inside Eastern loop. No Cleats.

Captains – call your team players, please call them at the phone #'s from the roster/draft selection.
