Hi folks,

I'm writing with a potential opportunity to
demonstrate that NYC-area Ultimate players are
concerned not only with getting access to more city
field space to play on, but concerned with maintaining
the quality and health of park space citywide, for
all. I mean, that's true right? Given the recent
discussions about the Brooklyn Spring League and how
great it is to (officially) have access to more field
space, and given guilt pangs some of us have about
what we do in the winter to the fields that we do play
on, I thought it was high time I send the "Don't you
want to sign up to my NY Cares Spring-Clean Up Day
volunteer team?" e-mail.

Spring Clean-Up Day (now called Hands On New York
Day) is an annual event were thousands of volunteers
work in the city's parks and gardens. More info on
the event is further below (I guess there will also be
non-park projects this year, hence the strange
name-change).

I have registered a team, "Team Ultimate" and have
several Ultimate friends already signed up. I don't
know how many volunteers they will allow me to sign
up, but if you are interested, please let me know. I
will make sure to bring a digital camera to capture
our participation in this event. If you have any
questions about what goes on on this day, just send me
an e-mail. lpwah1@...

Thanks!

Lee

Hands On New York Day 2005
Sponsored by Major League Baseball
New York Cares' Annual Spring Volunteer Event
Saturday, April 16th, from 9:30am - 3:00pm.

Spring Clean Up Day is back, with a new name and a new
mission. Welcome to Hands On New York Day, sponsored
by Major League Baseball, an expanded day of hands-on
volunteering to spruce up our City for spring. Our
goal is to revitalize over 50 community spaces in a
single day.

Thousands of volunteers will revitalize City parks and
community gardens, as well as do urgently needed
projects at community centers and social service
agencies throughout the five boroughs. Volunteers will
plant flowers and trees; paint murals and common
rooms; and do so much more. Hands On New York Day is a
great way to bring people together to celebrate
spring, and an inspiring kick off for National
Volunteer Week (April 17-23)
