For anyone looking to play what may be a more competitive game (?) on
a grass field this Spring, there is a Spring League forming in
Prospect Park. See the following link for more information:
http://www.nycssc.com/index.cfm?view=sports&sid=33
It is organized by the New York City Social Sports Club. The hard-core
ultimate community out there is mixed on getting involved and
organizers themselves acknowledge that it is primarily a "social"
activity. However, they do have permits for some of the nicer fields
in the city. They charge a pretty steep sign-up fee... $75.
Just FYI (see their blurb below)
Ultimate Frisbee
Sports Offered by the NYCSSC
Combining the non-stop movement and athletic endurance of soccer with
aerial passing skills of football, a game of Ultimate is played by two
seven-player squads with a high-tech plastic disc on a field similar
to football. The object of the game is to score by catching a pass in
the opponent's end zone.
Ultimate is governed by Spirt of the Game, a tradition of
sportsmanship that places the responsibility for fair play on the
players rather than referees.
