I am pleased to announce that teams will be soon forming for a second
season of the NYC Public Ultimate League: The _only_ public ultimate
league that you can get to by MTA subway. Here are the details:
When: Sundays between May 11 - July 20th(possibly longer). Each game
will be alloted two hours between 12pm-8pm.
Where: East meadow of central park. This is the field ("dust bowl")
north of the 97th street traverse and immediately west of 5th
avenue). Admittedly, this is a pretty terrible field but it is the
only place where I could get a permit and at least it is very large.
There is a very strong chance though that the league will move to
Trump field(last year's field) in June when that field reopens. Also,
this league will not transplant the normal pickup that occurs in the
east meadow on sundays as the NYCPUL will reserve part of its
permitted space ("whole meadow") for open/free pickup-play.
The official registration is not up yet but it will be up soon. We
will be using the onlyultimate.com service again like we did last
year and I will notify you again when that is ready. Once the
official registration site is up, league membership will be on a
first-come first-serve basis until the league roster is full.
Cost: The cost will be 25$ for the entire season (no less than 8
weeks of ultimate) and also includes:
-a team t-shirt
-a nice trophy (if you are on the winning team)
-a big party/barbeque
All the overage will go to a worthwhile charity (last year it went to
the arthritis foundation).
The dues will be non-refundable and membership is not-transferable.
Rules: UPA tenth edition. 5-2 male-female split.
Who can play: This league is co-ed and is open to everyone over 18
regardless of ability and athleticism. Last year there was a problem
with not enough women signing up so this year there will be separate
sign-ups for men and women in order to ensure a proper ratio.

Chelsea permit:
I bought 2 chelsea permits even though it seems like it will not be
feasible for us to use them for the league's regular season (despite
the poll results). Rather, they will be used for two exhibition days
to generate interest for this league:
Exhibition 1 - Sunday, 6/20/03 women's only pickup
Exhibition 2 - Sunday, 6/27/03 brooklyn vs manhattan game.
Each game will be from 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm and there will be a 2$
charge/person to play.

Special offer: I still am in desperate need of volunteers. I
especially need someone with graphic art skills to design the t-shirt
logo... This is the opportunity to see your work on at least one
hundred t-shirts. Also, the person who volunteers to draw the logo
will get to play for free in the league and get all of the leftover t-
shirts to keep.
