The helmet is in case you bump your head getting
on or off the plane.

Impressive. But I feel compelled to ask:
What's the helmet for?
Good luck on your cert this weekend.

PS unless the shop can fix the broken
spoke on my ride before this weekend, I'm probably not in action. How does one
break a spoke anyway? I broke it by the cassette otherwise I'd fix it myself. I
dont have a cluster removal tool. or a big vise to hold it.

Great idea, Matt.
I'm Rick Bruner, research director at DoubleClick.
Biking Style: Amateur Intermedia (15-18 MHP, mixed
terrain); I'm aiming to buy a better road bike soon, $$$
permitting, at which point I expect to ride faster
Bike: Bianchi Osprey, a mountain bike with slick
tires, effectively a hybrid
Location: Tiemann Place (effectively 124th Street) and Broadway in Manhattan,
near Riverside Church and Grant's Tomb.

Hey, it might make sense to get an idea of the range of bikers on the list at present. It would be nice for everyone to introduce themselves anyway.
For those who don't know me... I am Matt Syrett. I am presently a freelance consultant in search of my next permanent gig who was displaced from my VP role at Grey Interactive by the WPP purchase of the Grey network.
Biking Style: Amateur Performance (21+ miles an hour over mixed terrain), duathlon.
My ability to ride is somewhat compromised at this time by my caring for a 10 day old newborn, but I can be often found in Prospect Park dodging hazards at speed. In a few weeks, I should be able to go longer than just a park ride.
I would love to get together a race team if anyone has interest. I am wanting to do the Central Park Duathlon this fall.

Vikas,
I can't speak for everyone on this list, but I prefer to go for longer
rides. Also, on nice weekend days Central Park tends to be terribly
crowded, thronging with rollerbladers and joggers and other bikers, so
it's almost a hazard and hard to get a good steady pace going.
But then, part of the point of this list would be that it would grow
large enough to accomodate a wide spead of biking styles. Another
colleague expressed interest in the list, but he's at the other end of
the spectrum, such a fast-paced biker that he didn't think he'd find
his biking peers here.
Hence, again I urge you all to spread the word to other cyclists in
the industry.

Isn't this like the 3rd time he's wiped out on his bike since being president?
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20050706/ap_on_re_eu/g_8_bush_bike_accident
I have crashed only once in that same time, on a serious mountain bike
ride (on a borrowed bike). I can only imagine what kind of danger he
was on wheels when he was still drinking.
BTW, I'm not going to be available for a ride this weekend, so feel
free to organize amongst yourselves, if anyone's interested. And also,
please help get the word out. We need to grow the size of this list if
we're going to really have fun with it.

So who all is in on Sunday's

meet? How about Union Square? 1pm.

I've got to leave in about 20 minutes (it's now 11:15am Sunday), as I
left my bike at the office, so if anyone still wants to suggest
another ride schedule, this would be a good time (I meanwhile have my
work computer at home, so I won't be checking email again from the
office).
Unless someone wants to suggest otherwise, I'll assume we're meeting
at the southeast corner of Union Square at 1pm.
Anyone else joining us besides Doron and Kevin (Lee!) and myself?

Yes, slightly nervous given the number of
miles I’ve put on the new pedal/shoe setup and the lack of auto-response
for clip out.
However, given a consensus, I’m
willing to give it a try. You’ll just have to wait while I pick myself
up off the street at traffic lights ;-)

Do you mean the Coney Island trip makes you nervous because of the street riding?
For those who don't know it, the Coney Island ride
from Manhattan involves getting over the Brooklyn Bridge, then a couple of miles of street riding (or less) in Brooklyn to get to Prospect Park, and from there it's pretty easy to get onto Ocean Parkway, which has a relatively quiet access road that parellels the
busier street in the middle of that road, which leads all the way to
Coney.

Do you mean the Coney Island trip makes you nervous because of the
street riding?
For those who don't know it, the Coney Island ride from Manhattan
involves getting over the Brooklyn Bridge, then a couple of miles of
street riding (or less) in Brooklyn to get to Prospect Park, and from
there it's pretty easy to get onto Ocean Parkway, which has a
relatively quiet access road that parellels the busier street in the
middle of that road, which leads all the way to Coney.
Here's a map, though it may not be exactly the route we want to ride:

I have a preference for a trip that
minimizes “clip outs,” as I’m still getting used to my new
pedals and shoes.
However, I’m willing to try any
trip.

So who all is in on Sunday's
ride? I'm good with Coney Island. Anyone else want to offer an opinion? Where should we
meet? How about Union Square? 1pm.

Right. Whoops. Kevin Ryan was of Did-it, but only briefly as it turned
out. That would be Kevin Lee who is my good buddy of several years.
Uh...sorry about that, Kevin (Lee).

Message received loud and clear - Rick thanks for setting this up. Kevin, nice to know that you will be joining the ride as well.
Should we maybe venture somewhere else this time? How about Coney island? Let me know.
Please note that we have moved to our new offices, located at 116 East 27th street, New York, NY 10016. My new direct line is 212-380-4714.

Hi folks,
Could someone confirm that you are receiving these messages? I see
them posted to the Yahoo Groups site, but I didn't get a copy of my
own message. That may just be because the system doesn't send a
message back to the person who sent it, but I don't know. Would be
nice to confirm that these are getting through.
Also, I'm playing around with list maintanence stuff. I realized I had
a typo in the posting address earlier. I had an "r" so it was
...adgreek... instead of ...adgeek... Therefore, just to clarify, here
is the address you should post messages to:
nycadgeekbikers@yahoogroups.com
I've also added a footer to each message with some admin details,
including that posting address.
