WHO: Scotty Graham Memorial Fund
WHAT: Charitable Fundraiser Event. 5th Annual Scotty Graham Memorial X-treme Freestyle Competition for skiers and snowboarders. This is a judged event. Participants may be any age, but must be advanced to expert in skills. Top 15-20 first-run qualifiers are eligible for 2nd run. This decision will depend upon number of contestants and, of course, the weather.
1st, 2nd, 3rd place male and female receive medals & prizes. 4th place prizes will be awarded if there are over 50 contestants. Top male and female skiers and snowboarders have name on perpetual trophy.
Awards party at Multorpor Lodge, SkiBowl East, will follow. There will be no host refreshments bib drawings for extra prizes. All contestants receive a free event tee shirt and goodie bag. Parents, spectators, siblings and friends are welcome to attend.
In remembrance of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on America, a patriotic event is planned. Members of Portland's "Power Pep Band" will perform the National Anthem and other American favorites, plus lots of oompah and toot for the contestants. Forerunners on the course will carry the American Flag.
WHEN: February 23, 2002. Registration 7:30 – 9:30 a.m., Event start time: 11-11:30 a.m.

NOTE: The 2002 fundraiser has been extended through Sunday, February 24, to encompass a "How Fast Can You Go?" Speed Trap. Age groups: 6-13; 14-20; 21 and over. Cost: $3 per run with 4-run limit. All contestants will receive certificates documenting their top speed. Medals for 1-2-3 in each group for top skiers and snowboarders. Overall skier and snowboarder to have name engraved on Olympic Games racing helmet, donated by Czech Olympian Speed Skier Petr Kakes.
WHY: Annual fundraiser for Scotty Graham Memorial Fund. Scotty's Fund gives grants and scholarships for winter sports teen athletes, focusing on ability, competitive and career goals, financial need, etc. In a period of 3 years, the foundation has awarded 25 grants and scholarships to 21 teens aged 14 through 19. These "Scotty Kids" are from Oregon high schools located in Stayton, Scio, Clackamas, Sandy, Salem, Portland; and in Camas and Longview Washington.
HOW: Registration is limited to 80 competitors. Fees for the X-treme Comp are $30 plus discounted lift ticket. Racing helmets are required. Pre-registration at G. I. Joe's stores or through the foundation at P O Box 390; Scio OR 97374 or 503-394-3526. Spectators are encouraged, and $5 lift tickets are offered.
OTHER COMMENTS: Pre-event Concert/Auction at Mt. Hood SkiBowl "Beer Stube," Friday, February 22, from 7 p.m. to closing. Tony Graham & Company will be performing. Door prizes will be offered. Event tee shirts will be available for $10-$12 each. Commemorative "Scotty Holiday Glasses" will be available, also.
Proceeds from this concert/auction will go toward grants and scholarships for school year 2002-03.
