Atta Boy 300 Oregon World Cup "Race for Vision" January 5 – 13, 2002
Mt. Hood and Mt. Bachelor will soon be the visited by some of the world’s top sled dog racers. Races will be held in Government Camp, Bend, Sisters, Prineville, LaPine, Sun River, and finish at Mt. Bachelor, OR. This event is one of only six World Cup sled dog races.
One of this year’s racers will be Rachael Scdoris who lives in Redmond, OR. Rachael is only 16 years old, and is legally blind. Rachel was eight years old when she started to train and participate in these sled dog races. Her passion and involvement with this sport, as well as her love for the dogs is raising awareness for ophthalmology research and the abilities of the visually impaired. One of Rachael’s goals is to run in a future Iditarod.
The races start at 9:30 a.m., and will be held on the following dates. January 5 is set aside for vet checks of the dogs.
January 6, one mile run to Government Camp
January 7, 45 miles from Bend to Mt. Bachelor
January 8, 40 miles with start/finish in Sisters
January 9, 45 miles Sisters to Mt. Bachelor
January 10, 55 miles start/finish Prineville
January 11, 40 miles start/finish LaPine
January 12, 40 miles start/finish Sun River
January 13, 30 miles start/finish Mt. Bachelor
