Nashville, TN Supports Area Blind Skiers
Since 1989, the Nashville, TN Ski Club has supported the Nashville School's
Vision Program and the Tennessee School for the Blind. Funds raised have been
used to send students to winter camps and provide them with the opportunity to
try downhill and cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, tubing, skating, and other

transportation for the students. The recipients are selected based upon
academics, positive attitude, school behavior, and physical ability. (Editors

SNOWSPORT INDUSTRY NEWS
Washington's Northwest Ski and Recreation Club Assessed B&O Taxes
The State of Washington has assessed Business and Occupation ("B&O") taxes on
all of the Club's activities for the past five years. The Northwest Ski and
Recreation Club is organized as a non-profit corporation, and has also been
assessed retail sales tax for all of the trips that were run through the club's
checking account. Historically, the Club has booked lodging, buses, and other
expenses, and, then paid the providers with the monies collected from trip
participants. The State of Washington advises that this process results in the
Club's selling travel, and is subject to sales taxes. (Editor's Note: This
information was provided by Seth Sandeen, President of the Northwest Ski and
Recreation Club for the March-April 2001 edition of The National Ski Club
Newsletter)

NWSCC REPORTS AND NOTICES
NWSCC's Man & Woman of the Year Elected
The April NWSCC Council meeting included the election of this year's Man and
Woman of the Year. Dale Parshall of Schnee Vogeli Ski Club was elected as Man
of the Year, and Sheri Parshall of Skiyente Ski Club was elected Woman of the
Year. Dale's commitment and involvement on the PACRAT Board and racing events,
club involvement, and his willingness to step up and volunteer to help other
clubs' events help explain his election. Sheri is currently the NWSCC's
Chairperson. As Chair, Sheri has helped develop new contacts and strengthened
NWSCC's relationship within FWSA. Sheri has demonstrated tireless enthusiasm
and commitment as a member of the NWSCC Board, and Skiyente Board member. She
is a past president of Skiyente, was the NWSCC Trip Captain for this year's FWSA
trip to Sun Valley, ID, and has chaired numerous events within her own club.
Both Dale and Sheri will attend this year's FWSA Convention in June, and be
considered for the FWSA's Man and Woman of the Year.

Scholarship Committee Spins-Off To Form Foundation
NWSCC's Scholarship Committee has determined that it will better serve its
objective by becoming a 501(c)(3) entity. In the future, this group will be
known as the Northwest Snow Sports Foundation ("Foundation"). As such, The
Foundation plans to continue its affiliation with NWSCC as a dues paying member
of the Council. The Foundation is committed to supporting young athletes who
strive to become leaders in academic pursuits, community involvement, and their
respected winter sport. Contact Diane Hicks at Dskier1@... or Brian Wolf at
Bwolf@... for information or the opportunity to become involved
with this program.
NWSCC Forms A New Fund Raising Committee
The NWSCC is expanding what was known as the Scholarship Committee to a broader
reaching fund raising committee. NWSCC has recognized that there are many
organizations and groups who support snow sports in many ways - whether it by
sponsoring events, providing services or participation in snowsport activities
to individuals, fund raising assistance for historical or special interest
facilities, and so forth. If you are interested in helping with this new
committee, please contact Diane Hicks at Dskier1@....
