NWSCC BOARD ELECTIONS
NWSCC and its member club boards, as well as the PACRAT Board consists of
people who volunteer their time and skills. Without these individuals, the
organizations could not continue to provide trips, activities, and race
programs every year. The June 20, 2001 NWSCC Council meeting will include
the election of the 2001- 2002 NWSCC and PACRAT Board positions:
NWSCC Board: Chairperson, Vice-Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer, and two
Board positions.
PACRAT Board: Chairperson (is a NWSCC Board member), Vice-Chair, Secretary,
Treasurer, Social Director, Sponsorship Director, Legal/Contracts Director,
Race Operations Director, and Course Director
The current NWSCC and PACRAT Boards encourage club members to become more
involved and run for one of the above positions. The benefits of being a
member of either board are many: meeting and working with people from the
various clubs, regional ski resorts, commercial members and sponsors; having
the opportunity to enhance already great organizations; meeting people
involved with FWSA and the snow-sport industry.
These Board positions provide opportunities to step outside one’s comfort
zone – speaking before a group, planning a large function, helping to
establish an operating budget, negotiation and listening skills are also
honed. Most of us have careers, not to mention families and personal
lives, but the benefits of being a part of either the NWSCC or PACRAT Board
far are well worth the time. Please contact Marilyn Sigler at
marski@... <mailto:marski@...> or Lynn Kovacs at
Llkovacs2@... <mailto:Llkovacs2@...> to add your name to the roster
of candidates.

FWSA
Member Survey
Far West Ski Association is conducting a survey of its members – and all
NWSCC club members are automatically members of FWSA. By completing a
survey maintained at its website http://www.fwsa.org <http://www.fwsa.org/>
, entrants will be eligible to enter a drawing for A Ski Week for Two to
Sunshine Village, Banff, Alberta, Canada. The ski trip package includes:
round trip air transportation provided by Horizon Air Holidays, slope side
accommodations for five nights at the Banff Sunshine Inn, and five days of
lift tickets at Sunshine Village for two. This package is valid with advance
booking during non-holiday weeks in the 2001 - 2002 ski season.
This survey information will be used to guide FWSA in providing the services
our members would like to have. The data will enable FWSA to build
relationships and sponsorships with the ski industry. The winner will be
drawn and announced at the Far West Ski Association Convention Annual Awards
Banquet on Saturday, June 9, 2001. You need not be present to win. Please
complete the survey no more than one time, as it is critical to the success
of Far West Ski Association that they have accurate data on our membership.
Western Ski Heritage Prize and Award 2001
Steamboat Springs Ski Resort is sponsoring a competition to honor those
individuals who have made a significant contribution to preserving some
facet of FWSA’s activity in the sport of skiing. It is not a service award
but recognition of specific work to preserve history.
Steamboat Springs has graciously donated a 4-day ski prize at Steamboat
Springs for the winning historian. NWSCC’s club members who may have a
history project suitable for this award are eligible to participate. The
deadline for submitting material is April 15, 2001. Check www.nwskiers.org
<http://www.nwskiers.org/> for specifications or contact John Watson, Box

WHAT OTHER NWSCC CLUBS DO?
What Do Clubs Do About Member Emergency Information? What happens when a
club member is hurt during a club trip? As a result of being ill prepared
in such a situation, Bergfreunde Ski Club is developing an emergency
information card for its trip captains. Club members will be asked to
provide the information, including emergency contact names, health
insurance, blood type, special allergies and medical conditions, and so
forth to Trip Captains. As a matter of fact, this is such a good idea,
that the NWSCC Board is considering implementing such a practice for its
future trips.
Skiyente Ski Club honored one of its own members as this year’s King Winter.
This is an annual celebration, where one individual is recognized for their
dedication and commitment to the area’s snowsport industry. Diane Hicks has
been a member of Skiyente Ski Club for many years, and continues to be a
tireless volunteer for the sport of skiing. She is always concerned about
the good time a person may be having, and promotes the pure enjoyment of
skiing. Diane has been the driving force behind Skiyente's annual Masters
race, and has also been the Club’s historian for a number of years. Her
scrapbooks and memorabilia collections capture many of Skiyente’s events and
special moments. Diane has been involved with NWSCC for many years,
dedicating time and energy to the fundraising efforts of its Scholarship
Committee in particular. Last but certainly not least; Diane has been a
PACRAT Board member and racer for over 15 years.

SNOWSPORT INDUSTRY NEWS
Making a Difference
Boarding For Breast Cancer (“BBC”), is a non-profit, youth-focused awareness
and fundraising foundation. Their mission is to spread breast cancer
awareness among today's youth, and to raise funds for research and
educational programs through events, sports, music, and art. Chapters
throughout the United States, OR are being established to expand its network
of volunteers and supporters.
BBC was launched in 1996 with the inaugural BBC Snowboard + Music Festival
at Sierra-At-Tahoe, CA. This event was founded in honor of Monica Steward, a
prominent member of the snowboard community, who was diagnosed with breast
cancer at the age of 28. Over the past five years, the success of the
Festival generated an overwhelming national interest in BBC's mission, and
has demonstrated the need to raise breast health awareness among a younger
demographic than previously targeted by breast cancer organizations. This
inspired BBC founders to extend BBC's mission beyond the single festival and
establish the Boarding For Breast Cancer Foundation. Their Educational
Outreach Program includes a BBC youth-focused, interactive awareness booth
that travels across the country to sports events and concerts.
During the past five years, BBC fundraising efforts have exceeded $500,000.
Past beneficiaries include, The Breast Cancer Fund, The Susan G. Komen
Foundation, The Nina Hyde Center For Breast Cancer Research, and a variety
of regional organizations. BBC will continue to award grants to individuals
and organizations that closely align with their mission, and to develop more
of BBC's own awareness and fundraising programs.
For more information regarding Boarding For Breast Cancer, call (802)
