High Cascade Snowboard Camp Presents Freestyle Camps at Meadows this Winter
4-Time sessions offered Saturdays and Sundays from January through April.  Holiday camps presented at Christmas and Spring Break.    MT. HOOD, OR – High Cascade Snowboard Camp (HCSC) will present freestyle snowboard camps at Mt. Hood Meadows this season. HCSC has earned an international reputation for high quality camps on Mt. Hood, primarily in the summer. The winter camps are designed for intermediate and expert snowboarders age 12 and older who want to improve their freestyle and big mountain riding technique.  Mt. Hood Meadows Vice President Dave Riley expects great things from the partnership. “High Cascade provides exceptional coaching and on-snow experiences for teenage snowboarders. We are excited about this unique partnership which will unite the experience and expertise of HCSC coaches and proven program with the terrain and freestyle offerings at Mt. Hood Meadows.”  “Campers are placed in groups with others of similar ability and a coach takes them out riding. Getting as much on-snow time as possible and logging miles really helps the coach to pass on tips to the riders.   Camps have two different formats – Four consecutive Saturdays or Sundays each month from January through April; and consecutive day holiday camps will be presented during Christmas and Spring Break.  Information on the HCSC Snowboard Camps at Mt. Hood Meadows can be found on-line at www.skihood.com  or www.highcascade.com

Facility Enhancements at Pacific Northwest Ski Areas:

Pacific Northwest Ski Areas Association (PNSAA) PRESS RELEASE     Scott Kaden, PNSAA, (541) 386-9600,  Release Date: December 1, 2004

Hood River, OR    As the population of the Pacific Northwest region grows, ski area operators add capacity to the various components of their ski areas to keep up with the growing demand for snow sports.  “The majority of guest ‘first impressions’ occur during winter holiday periods and on busy weekend days in January and February.  Every ski area operator in the region is committed to making the necessary investments to ensure a high quality recreational experience on each and every day of the ski season,” remarked Scott Kaden, president of the Pacific Northwest Ski Areas Association.  During the summer and fall months of 2004, the region’s ski area operators completed noteworthy facility enhancements.  The larger projects are noted below:

Crystal Mountain, WA:  Constructed Campbell Basin Lodge – a 12,500-square feet, situated near the top terminal of the Forest Queen Express Chairlift.

49° North, WA:  Chair 2 was upgraded and extended to an elevation just above Midway.  Developed nine ski trails in its East Basin expansion area.

Mission Ridge:  Expanded the square footage of its SnowSports Center by 30 percent and added and improved trails at the top of Chair 3.

Mt. Baker, WA:  Chair 6 was converted from a fixed-grip double chair to a fixed-grip quad chair.

Mt. Spokane, WA:  Ski & Snowboard Park expanded and relocated its terrain park to the Half Hitch and Lamonga Pass trails.

Stevens Pass, WA:   Winter Resort expanded its park and pipe features – three pipe offerings include an in-ground Superpipe and intermediate and beginner half pipes – and re-contoured the lift unload area of the Daisy beginner chairlift.

The Summit at Snoqualmie, WA:  Installed a moving sidewalk (i.e., conveyor belt) beginner lift at Summit Central and lengthened and realigned Summit West’s existing conveyor belt lift.  Improvements were made to existing day lodges and surroundings, including the construction of additional fire pits in the base area plazas at Summit Central and Summit West.

Cooper Spur Ski Area, OR:  Added a carousel teaching lift to its ski school terrain and a canopy to its base area sundeck.

Hoodoo Mountain Resort, OR:  Added four lanes to its Autobahn Tubing Park and improved key stretches of its Over Easy Trail.

Mt. Hood Meadows Ski Resort, OR:  Iinstalled the Vista Express high speed quad chairlift, expanded its park offerings with the creation of Vista Park, and launched its new EpiCenter Snow Sports Learning Center, Gear Box retail shop, and Meadows Boutique and Wine Bar business enterprises.

Mt. Hood SkiBowl, OR:  Refurbished its day lodge buildings and developed additional overnight accommodations at nearby affiliate Collins Lake Resort.

Ski Anthony Lakes, OR:  Enlarged its Nordic skate and classic trail system to 40 kilometers.

Lookout Pass Ski & Recreation Area, ID:  Completed a 6,000-square foot addition to its base lodge, and will operate a new Top of the Mountain Café this winter.

Schweitzer Mountain Resort, ID:  Gladed Little Blue and added three trails to its official mountain map – Grant’s Nosedive, Pucci’s Chute, and Australia.

Silver Mountain, ID:  Morning Star Lodge at Gondola Village is under construction (grand opening expected next spring).  In addition, the resort developed off-piste terrain adjacent to its Terrible Edith trail and constructed a bigger half pipe and terrain park in Chair 2 Bowl.

Big Mountain Resort, MT:  Completed a comprehensive trail-thinning initiative that re-gladed Good Medicine, Larch, Powder Bowl, Toni Matt’s headwall, and Langley.  Village guest service amenities have been improved, including significant enhancements to the Base Camp Kids Center.

For additional information on these and other facility enhancements, contact the PNSAA office at (541) 386-9600.  The Pacific Northwest Ski Areas Association is a non-profit trade association, which represents the interests of ski and snowboard facilities located in Washington, Oregon, Montana, Idaho, and Alaska.  The Association’s member ski areas – most of which operate on public land – collectively host an estimated 4.5 million skier visits annually.  For additional information on Pacific Northwest skiing and snowboarding, contact the PNSAA office at (541) 386-9600, or visit www.skiwashington.com, www.oregonski.org, www.idahowinter.org, or www.ski-inlandnorthwest.com to link to the web site of your favorite mountain.
