NWSCC - MAN AND WOMAN OF THE YEAR
It's time to start thinking about thanking those people in your ski clubs who have gone above and beyond the call of duty. Hopefully, you have many people to consider as Man and/or Woman of the Year. I know the choice is a hard one, but please submit your club's Man and/or Woman of the Year. Let us know who they are, how many years they have been involved in your club, and what they did this past year to receive the special thanks as the Man and Woman of the Year for your club. All club honorees will be honored at the Council's spring event "The Snow Rose Casino Night" on May 9, 2003. All club honorees are also eligible to become Northwest Ski Club Council's Man and Woman of the Year and represent the Northwest Council at the Far West Ski Association Convention from May 29 thru June 1 in Palm Springs, California. Please send your club's choice of Man and Woman of the Year to Linda Orlando at snowmidget227@..., before March 26.

FAR WEST RACE CHAMPIONSHIPS-----or------A GREAT SKI GETAWAY WEEKEND FOR NON-RACERS.
Skiers and snow-riders of all sorts will be having fun enjoying the snow on Mt. Bachelor and partying at the Riverhouse in Bend, during the weekend of April 4-6. This event will have several dimensions: A chance to ski and party with fellow snow-lovers from Washington, California, Arizona, Nevada and Oregon. You don't have to be a racer, you don't even have to be a good skier. Hey, you don't even have to be a skier at all! Come learn how to ski. Or come just for the party (Saturday night, April 5)! PACRAT racers will have their last race of the season on Saturday (April 5). Come race or come cheer our racers! Far West Race Championships will be held. A world-cup style Slalom (on Saturday), and a Giant Slalom (on Sunday). Must qualify--Pacrats automatically qualify, races held during the FWRA week at Big Mountain, and the Masters race organized last weekend by the Skiyente ski club. Racing Clinics will be held on Thursday (free 2-hour clinics) and on Friday, April 4 (whole-day clinic for $45). So, come a day early and get some training (optional) before the main event. Everything is optional. There is no "package deal". Things have been made flexible. Sign up for as much or as little as you want. Here are the elements to choose from:
* 2 nights lodging at the Riverhouse: $93.
* FWRA Racing fee (Slalom & GS): $35.
* Optional full day race clinic Friday: $45.
* Discounted lift tickets only $33. (Racers, non-racers, and family)
* Saturday night Awards Party: $20.
To be part of all this fun stuff, register by mailing a check (made out to NWSCC) and your contact info to: Marilyn Sigler, 2100 NE 77th Ave., Vancouver, WA 98664. (360) 883-6937 or marski@... .
Lodging is $46.50 per person per day (i.e. $93 per person for 2 nights).
You can check out the Far West and the NWSCC web sites for more info on the Championships:

The last PACRAT race will be held on the same day (Saturday). Because the Far West racing rules are a bit stricter, and the number of racers larger, make sure to give the Far West race a priority. The PACRAT rules will be relaxed and more flexible, to allow everyone to do both races on the same day. For example, members of the same PACRAT team will not be required to race at the at the same time. There will be at least 6 separate courses set up for each of the Far West races. Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced racers will race on entirely different courses, set up on different slopes on the mountain. The information will be posted in the lodge at registration time. Make sure you go to the correct race course for your category at the appointed time. Races usually proceed at a fast pace, faster than our PACRAT races. So, don't be late showing up at the starting gate. Racers will be divided into 2 gender groups, 2 age groups (21- 44; and 45 and over), and 10 ability levels. You only compete against people in your own category. Far West race courses are usually 2 or 3 times longer than our average PACRAT course. The Slalom course may average about 1 minute and a half. The Giant Slalom may be as long as 2 minutes. Usually, as soon as a racer is mid-way down the course, they let the next racer go. So, if you fall in the race course, get out of the way quickly!
