WHO:  Scotty Graham Memorial Fund

 

WHAT:  Charitable Fundraiser Event. 

    6th Annual Scotty Graham Memorial  Competition for skiers and snowboarders.   Formerly, X-treme Competition, now encompasses the weekend with a "Speed Trap" event on Sunday for all age groups.

 

Saturday X-treme Comp:              

 Participants may be any age, but must be advanced to expert in skills.  Top 15-20 first-run qualifiers are eligible for 2nd run.  This decision will depend upon number of contestants and, of course, the weather.  All contestants receive a free event tee shirt and goodie bag.  Parents, spectators, siblings and friends are welcome to attend

                1st, 2nd, 3rd place male and female receive medals & prizes.  4th place prizes will be awarded if there are over 50 contestants.   Registration limited to 75 competitors.  Top male and female skiers and snowboarders have name on perpetual trophy.

                Awards ceremony to be held on the mountain immediately after event, weather permitting. 

NOTE:  In case of inclement weather, awards will be held at 5:00 p.m. in SkiBowl's Lower Lodge.  There will be no-host refreshments and bib drawings for extra prizes. 

 

Sunday "Speed Trap":

Participants may be of any age.   Each participant may have up to 4 tries and receives an official certificate for bragging rights.  Age groups ranging from 6 to 96 years of age.  Medals and ribbons awarded at ceremony after event.  Overall top skier and snowboarder have name on perpetual trophy, a special speed helmet donated by former Czechoslovakian Olympian Petr Kakes.

Racing Helmets Required on Both Events

 

WHEN:   X-treme Comp:  February 22, 2003.  Registration 7:30 – 9:30 a.m., Event start time: 10:30-11 a.m. 

                "Speed Trap":  February 23, 2003.  Registration  9  - 10 a.m., and on the hill.

                  Event start time:  11 a.m.

WHERE:  Mt. Hood SkiBowl, Government Camp OR

 

WHY:   Annual fundraiser for Scotty Graham Memorial Fund.  Scotty's Fund gives grants and scholarships for winter sports teen athletes, focusing on financial need, ability, competitive and career goals, etc.  In a 4-year period, the foundation has awarded 31 grants and scholarships to 26 teens aged 14 through 19.  These "Scotty Kids" are from Oregon schools located in Stayton, Scio, Clackamas, Sandy, Welches, Mt. Hood Academy, Salem, Portland; and in Camas and Longview Washington.

 

HOW:   Pre-registration at G. I. Joe's stores or through the foundation at P O Box 390; Scio OR 97374 or 503-394-3526.   Spectators are encouraged, and $5 lift tickets are offered for them.   Photographers will be on site for still shots and videos.

 

OTHER EVENTS: Pre-event Concert/Auction at Mt. Hood SkiBowl “Beer Stube,” Friday, February 21, from 7 p.m. to closing.  Several local artists will be performing.   Door prizes will be offered.  Event tee shirts will be available for $10-$12 each.  Commemorative “Scotty Holiday Glasses” will be available, also.
