Oregon Adaptive Skiing Recruiting Volunteers
Bend, Ore. — December 2, 2002 – Mt. Bachelor and Oregon Adaptive Skiing (OAS) will hold a two day, on-mountain clinic December 14 and 15, 2002 for skiers and snowboarders interested in volunteering this season with OAS.
The clinic, taught by Tahoe Adaptive Ski School Instructors Billie and Bruce Cornell from Alpine Meadows, is just $25 and open to only 30 registrants. Instruction will begin each day at 9:00 AM on the snow outside of the Sunrise Lodge. PSIA Certified Instructors can receive continuing education credit through this clinic.
The goal of OAS is to foster a sense of independence in physically and mentally disabled people by introducing them to the freedom of the mountains. Through the clinic volunteers will become familiar with adaptive ski techniques and equipment, learn basic skills for assisting and guiding disabled skiers on the mountain, and become part of a team providing physically challenged individuals with an alpine ski experience.
At Mt. Bachelor Adaptive Skiers and their assistants receive discounted full day tickets of $25, two hours of private lessons for the price of one hour, and free use of adaptive equipment.
