Mt. Bachelor Installing Snowmaking System

Assures Early-Season Snow Coverage

Bend, Ore. — September 12, 2002 — Mt. Bachelor, the premier snow resort in the Pacific Northwest, announced today the resort is installing a state-of-the-art snowmaking system around the Pine Marten Express chairlift.

The Super Wizard Snowmaking system will allow the resort to produce enough snow to ski from the Pine Marten Lodge down to the West Village Lodge. Under the right weather conditions up to 12-18 inches of snow can be produced in as little as three days. Utilizing 27 hydrants, eight moveable guns and three tower mounted guns the system can blanket the Thunderbird run as well as the Superpipe.

"Our goal is to provide the best possible conditions for our guests," according to Mt. Bachelor spokesman Chris Johnston. "A traditional mid-November opening helps set the tone for the winter tourist season in Central Oregon. Snowmaking will be employed to complement the natural snow we already receive and get the season off to a good start."

Mt. Bachelor President Dan Rutherford said the snowmaking installation for 2002-03 is the first step in a multi-year plan. "Eventually snowmaking will be installed around the Sunshine Accelerator chairlift, and on the Homerun and Skyliner runs," he said. "Upon plan completion we can virtually guarantee great snow coverage on a variety of runs." He cites the snowmaking system as an exciting addition to Mt. Bachelor’s offerings. "We are always looking for ways to offer our guests an even better mountain experience."
